Bast and working with her
« on: February 14, 2015, 10:45:27 pm »
So I have been drawn to Bast since I was a little girl and have worked with her on and off for about ten years now. She is my main deity that I pray to so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with her.

Like, I noticed for myself that she has a very pronounced love of sandalwood and when I burn some for her, I always feel like a weight has been lifted. When I first went to a pagan store (which sadly closed and now I have none near me), I was drawn to this jar and it had powered sandalwood incense in it. Every day I burn some for her. Has anyone noticed sandalwood as one of her favorite offerings?

She also has pulled me towards all things lavender. I didn't even like the smell of lavender before getting in touch with my inner pagan (so to speak) but after I dedicated myself to her I noticed lavender kept popping up, it was so strange.

Funny thing about catnip, which is one of those that just seem to fit her. I bought a bag of it at the above mentioned pagan store and asked for a sign that it was the right herb for rituals that involve my cats and their health and happiness. Well, I went to sleep with the bag on my dresser and woke up the next morning with it all over my room and two very happy and relaxed cats looking like they did nothing wrong. Ever since, I have used it for anything relating to cats and my oldest is 15 and no problems with him at all, thank Bast, so I think it is working.

Basically my main point of this post is to ask if anybody else on this forum worships Bast and what offerings they have found to be pleasing to her. Thanks for reading!

Bast is the Lady of Perfumes.  Stuff that smells good is quite likely to be to her taste in general.  I've seen some websites claiming that the Egyptians imported sandalwood, specifically (they imported a lot of incenses and other things), including for use in the enbalming process.  I'm not easily confirming that in my book on Egyptian perfumes or other references, but it's entirely plausible that it might well have been a traditional offering.

Thank you for that link. I enjoy reading about other people's experiences with Bast. I have some perfumes up in my shrine actually for her. I will have to look up more about sandalwood. I haven't read anything about it just noticed that she really seems to like it (at least it feels that way). That book about Egyptian perfumes seems interesting. Can you tell me the title of it? I would be very thankful. :)

Chocolate, the better quality the more pleasing it seems to be. I offered 95% once. It was both good, and awful.

Typically, I offer wine when I have it, and flowers from my garden are grown in tribute to her. I have a good assortment of lilies, roses and irises that get offered.

Scents seem to be good too. I keep many perfumes and smelly good things, and will offer a spritz to Her before I apply any to myself.

Hubs is the Bast devotee in the house, but I know we've offered her catnip. We also have two cats. What's funny is that our younger cat will spend time hanging out in our ritual room. I like to think she's also worshipping Bast. She's my little familiar, and loves to come in there when I'm doing spellwork.

I don't worship Bast anymore, but when I was more active in Kemetic Orthodoxy She was my go-to deity. I got the sense she really, really loved warm smells like amber and some flowers like gardenia, and that kitcheny smells like bread and cookies were also good.

I'm a fan of devotional offerings that are everyday actions, so for Bast I did my best to be kind, to reach out to others who needed emotional support, and trying to uphold ma'at where I could. Putting away shopping carts and all that. :)
Maker, though the darkness comes upon me,
I shall embrace the light. I shall weather the storm.
I shall endure.
What you have created, no one can tear asunder.
