Gods not interested in human affairs

Many people have told me, particularly in Heathen circles that the gods do not help individuals and are not interested in "petty human issues and affairs" and have bigger things to worry about. If you want something done, go to your ancestors. Would you consider that to be true?

 
I think that it's mostly true. But because of the sheer number of gods, the remainder still results in a great deal of interaction between deities and people. Though I kind agree with the principle that minor deities and spirits are perhaps more effective in getting things accomplished. Exceptions happen all the time, of course; that's what having a personal relationship with your patron gods is all about. But for people who don't have specific patrons, or for those whose patron gods are distant, it might be more practical to work with other supernatural or spiritual forces.
