2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 16 Sept 2019: $660 donated. $10 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

how to connect with the god and goddess
« on: July 12, 2012, 04:20:56 pm »
i am new to wicca, and i sort of understand the concept of the god and goddess. i find it hard to conect with them...i cant visulaize them. i dont understand what they look like and why they look like that. are they big, are they small...are they transparent, i really dont understand! i can worship the great spirit but i find it hard to personify it into the god and goddess. like i said~im just starting out on this path. if you remember when you were new to this, would you tell me how to connect? and also how do you see them? thankyou:)

To be honest I do not recall how I viewed the gods / goddesses when I first started upon my pathwalk or over the years as I have walked it.  Occasionally I will find some early drawing or description I wrote way back when though none of them goes further back than the 1979 time frame.

I can say it was an ever evolving description that filled out and in as I read everything I could get my hands on about each individual god / goddess.  What started out as basically a cut out doll soon was filled in and had life breathed into the image until what fills my mind today.  Derived from bits and pieces of dreams, perhaps fragments of fantasies I held of them and remarks pertaining to them from the many materials I read.  Probably one of the main reasons I find the archaic forms to be some much better in my opinon than the many modern rendetitions I have seen over the years.

I would advise read all you can get your hands on though be aware that the more ancient the source the more archaic your imagery of the god / goddess shall probably appear.  You'll also discover that many various persona's will become intertwined to the point that it will be like looking into a house of mirrors and each mirror reflects a different aspect of the god / goddess yet you'll see them in all the reflections.

Be careful to note things that indicate solar or lunar and when they were written.  It's like Artemis in early accounts is referenced with a lot of Gold color which usually notates a solar god / goddess.  Yet in later works you see more silver listed for her as she becomes more associated to the moon and lunar aspects.  Each little tidbit adding into the greater portrait of them that will develope within your mental landscape and how you view them.

Then do not be surprised to discover that that imagery will change and change and change as you discover more and more about them.  It will also change as you become closer and closer to them.

I think you'd be at an advantage, actually. Oftentimes I take on the paradigm that the gods are essences, that we give names and faces to when our limited human perception prevents us from comprehending the true nature of what they represent (love, death, war, time, etc...) Put less judgmentally, for whatever reason it seems to be just natural to personify otherwise unseen forces-- natural for most of us, but if it's not in your nature to personify then I would advise against forcing yourself to. Resonate to your own tune, if the great spirit is it -- why not? The god and goddess might very well take form when it's the right time for you to relate to them as such.

In learning everything that I could about the otherworld, I found myself drawn to the properties of the classical element of water. I would research water deities, and at first they would just seem like characters to me. In meditations, I would attune to the concepts connected to water, and sort of search around for any other intelligence that shared that psychic "space". It was long, long time before I even met with an undine, a family of them that I could see with a definite image but when I describe it it's also clear that they've been run through a lot of my perception filters. So I take it that's what being done with a lot of other entities that I meet. And when I did encounter what I believe to have been a deity-level being, it was and is still very much a conceptual communication/representation... I strain to "see" my patron as clearly as other water entities that I've met.

Honestly? They look however you want them to look.

Some Wiccan paths have specific deities they work with, I'm told.  So the Lord and Lady a Gardnerian calls is probably not the Lord and Lady I'm apt to call. In fact, I often call Brigit and Cernunnos.

When I was starting out, I ran across an exercise somewhere in my readings where you ask the Lord or Lady to show up in meditation, and then you journal about what you see. I think that's a good way to begin seeking out Gods that want to work with you.

If that is too freeform, just search google images for artwork of "Wiccan God Goddess" or something like that, to see how other folks conceptualize them. Pick out the ones you like best, and roll from there.
