A playlist for your gods
« on: November 18, 2011, 07:26:03 am »
I noticed that a lot of us at some point ends up putting together a playlist for the deities/spirits we have a relationship with.

Part of modern worship I suppose.

I thought it could be fun -and useful - to share. So, what's on your patron-inspired playlist? Or... there's a song that, when you listen to it, always brings you  back to a certain deity/spirit?

Share!:D:

On my Dionysos playlist you find...

All of the songs in the 'Fight For all Right Reasons' by Nickelback, because that album is ALL about getting wild, booze and sex.
Born to be Wild by Hinder
Crash and Burn by Savage Garden
Il Maestro by Renato Zero
Bacchantes by
Cosmic Love by Florence&theMachine
Howl by Florence&theMachine
Shine by Rosi Golan
All The Same To Me by Anya Marina
Higher State by Bailey feat Jodie Connor
Angels on the moon by Thriving Ivory
Good Girls go bad by cobra starship (it makes me to think of bacchantes, i can't help it )
--

On my Hekate Playlist:

Building A Mystery- Sarah McLachlan
Dead In The Water- Hawthorne Heights
Rescue Me- Hawthorne Heights
Storm-lifehouse
Hymn To Hekate- Margin Rose
All I am living for-evanescence
i'll stand by you- the pretenders
What Water Gave Me- Florence&theMachine (I find this to be an universally wonderful worship song, but particularly so if the deity is associated with sea)
Storm- nox arcana

And a few others that are more about my relationship with Her than the Lady in question.

Ooh, very interesting! I'm loving this.

I suppose I'll make myself an Ishtar playlist, and then get some of these on my iPod ASAP! (Some already are. But still.)

The entire soundtrack to "Catherine"
The Gossip - Swing Low
Hess is More - Yes Boss
Scandal - The Warrior
Otep - Battle Ready (fits Kali as well)
Otep - My Confession
(I could include so much more Otep on here too...)
Bananarama - Venus

For Tammuz... I'm thinking Pink Floyd's "Sheep"... perhaps Cake's "Sheep Go to Heaven" as well. Not as many ideas...

I'll have to work on this. :)
Please light a candle at my shrine to Ishtar and Tammuz. http://nshrine.com/shrine/IshtarAndTammuz

I klutzed out and got the title wrong - it's 'Never Let Me Go'

Two of my favorite mood inspiring songs are by the same artist, Wendy Rule.  They are her songs dedicated to and named for Artemis & Hekate.  A third song that works for each of them is Animus.

You can listen to them here for free:

I don't have a playlist or anything (since I don't have anything to play music with). However, in thinking about it, the song Voodoo by Godsmack is definitely a Papa Legba song. I know; I know. It's pretty damn obvious, but sometimes, it's the obvious stuff that counts more. I'm thinking Ten Ton Brick by Hurt for Sekhmet, as well as Indestructible and Warrior by Disturbed. I can't think of anything for Hwt-Hrw...

Songs that I generally associate with Loki (or ones that Loki seems to like playing when I let him choose) are:

'All Star' by Smash Mouth
'Dude Looks Like A Lady' by Aerosmith (mental image from Loki of Thor in Freya's wedding dress hehehe)
'Curse of Curves' by Cute Is What We Aim For
'Driftwood' by Travis
'I Want To Be A Hippy' by Technohead (This was one of the first songs Loki got me to download because we both thought it was too funny not to have)
'So Much Better When You're Naked' by Ida Maria
'I Wanna' by All America Rejects
'Gypsy' by Suzanne Vega (I asked Sigyn to pick a song once, and she chose this - that was the first time I'd ever heard it since I added it on my iPod on a whim, and was shocked at who lyrics sounded like they were singing about)
'Witchcraft' by Pendulum (I imagine Loki singing this, and the almost howl at the end of the first part gives me shivers every time)

I have a lot for Brighid. (The only one I have for any of my other gods is "Holding out for a Hero"--the version by Frou Frou from the end credits of Shrek 2, not the Bonnie Tyler version--for Lugh.)

Standing Outside the Fire--Garth Brooks
Touched By the Sun--Carly Simon
Follow the Lady--Carbon Leaf
Brighid's Kiss--La Lugh
You Picked Me--A Fine Frenzy

I can't think of the others right now, but there are several.
A heretic blast has been blown in the west,
That what is no sense must be nonsense.

-Robert Burns

Heheh, I like that. :) My only track for Lugh is "The Lightning Storm," by Flogging Molly. A lot of the lyrics really suit him mythically.

I usually have just one or two songs I associate with most of my gods. For Oengus, it's "Love Is All Around," by Bjork. (And maybe also her song "Venus As A Boy.") For Cu Chulainn, it's Adam Ant's "Dog Eat Dog," or "Sweating Blood" by F-Minus. (The latter really suits his warp spasms, I think.)

Manowar - Odin

Amon Amarth - With Odin on our side
Manowar - Battle Hymn
Bathory - Ring of Gold
Danzig - How the Gods kill
Bathory - Mother Earth Father Time
Iron Maiden - Invaders
Nomans Land - Lord of the seas

I don't know if the Gods enjoy these songs, but when I pray to them I do feel compelled to listen to them.

Sometimes I like to look on youtube for playlists other people have posted for certain sabbaths. Especially if I want to find authentic celtic hymns. Mainly though I listen to a lot of norse metal and apocolyptica through pandora to keep things interesting.

I actually had to think about it, but as it turns out, I don't have any specific songs associated with Apollo (well, perhaps aside from Theatre of Tragedy - Cassandra, for obvious reason). Instead, I tend to associate all the music that I listen to with Him - mostly classical pieces, but really, every kind of genre. Not the music that just plays on the background unnoticed, but the musical pieces that almost make you cry while listening to them, because they are just so beautiful.
