A better connection to my deity
« on: January 11, 2014, 09:34:33 pm »
I'm at a crossroad. I feel a connection with a deity, but I don't know if is either Lilith or Naamah. I could use some guidance please... A far as why I feel drawn towards them is because I believe there are many different interpretations of them. To me their independent spirit, feminine strength, and conviction make them an attractive deity.
Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

Just a wild thought - have you asked Her what She is called?

I've found that for the most part, the Gods are more than willing to tell you who they are if you ask. Of course, they might also point back at all the clues they've been laying in front of you and ask who you think they are.

Lilith is one I have done some work with in the past and she hmm.. appreciated? respected? in any case, She wasnt put out when I used a direct approach with Her.

Adding on to what was already said, you could also establish a stronger connection to her by giving various forms of offerings. I definitely would ask her who she is, and if she refuses to answer, I'd have my guard up high.

Bolding is mine.

The deity not giving you a name by which to call them isn't necessarily a sign that something is wrong.  I worship at least one who required me to figure it out myself, which involved a lot of work it turned out I needed to do.

My $0.02.  YMMV, as always.

I agree, it isn't exactly wrong. But none the less, I'd personally be very cautious, and would at least want some form of reasoning as to why.

In my experience there could be reasons beyond our understanding - or simple ones like the name of the deity being lost in the mists of time. I certainly didn't treat it as a red flag.

In my case, the deity I had dreamt about (and who then kept popping up in meditations etc) was a goddess I'd never heard of. I had to encounter her name and myth before I could understand who she was. Sometimes, the problem is our limited minds. But there are many other potential reasons why a deity wouldn't make it clear who they are.

Yeah, all very good points. I guess I'm just the type of person who's very cautious, and not all too open. My apologies.

There's still something to be said for trusting your instincts when communicating with a non-corporeal being. Sometimes, yeah they want you to go through a process of discovering who they are. But for the most part they'll tell you this. (Keeping in mind that this may come in the form of symbols)

If you get a strong feeling they're just trying to play you, and your gut is saying - there's something wrong here, then it's okay to say -- I don't want to play this game. Or even, I don't want to communicate with you.
