"The Wild Men of Europe"
« on: April 14, 2013, 09:26:43 am »
Has anyone else read seen the brief write-up and photos on page 98 of the April 2013 National Geographic called "The Wild Men of Europe"? Its about the old ways and the spring rituals. I was very disappointed at the lack of a proper article, normally I love National Geographic articles. Even my mother was upset that they featured some very obscure figure for Switzerland. My dad, who comes from that kanton where Carnival is celebrated barely knew who Sauvage was (I still don't know, we just had no power for several days, haven't had time to really ask).

As someone who loves folklore and the Germanic myths, I'd love to explore the bits and pieces that were in the short photo essay. Does anyone have any resources or information that I could further explore? I've basically read the book on "old festivals and traditions in the Alps" cover to cover.
Jinx or Jinxy :)
Add a dash of folklore, a few centuries of farmer\'s blood and mix well.

I haven't seen that issue, but I checked out NatGeo's website and it looks like the pictures are the same ones I've seen going around Tumblr by Charles Freger? They're part of a book called Wilder Mann that I've been dreaming about buying for several months, I think it's backordered now, alas!
