If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Topic? Freyja was a sex goddess celebrated in orgies on Friday.

Set/Seth/Sutekh is EVIL incarnate.  Discuss.

Except that Set(h) had cult centers in Egypt (see: Ombos). Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Egyptians don't seem like the type to worship beings that are Evil Incarnate.

I did a report on him for my "Intro. to Religions of the Near East and Egypt", it was quite interesting. :D

There's also this image: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pHpeax1GRIM/RzeUZBoBHVI/AAAAAAAAABM/Mlnp33xQW0o/s320/medium_set-duat.jpg

You know, it kind of looks like Set is protecting Ra! That seems rather out of character for an evil god, you know?

Bastet is another who is associated with "Orgiastic rites" as her followers sail down the nile to her temple.  Unfortunately today those same "Rites" are now used to justify her being a "sex" goddess and later goddess of lesbians.

I wasn't sure whether to put this in "Alternate and Revisionist History" but this is a companion thread to my "What are some doozies you've heard?" over in that section.

Yes Valentine, all lesbians like cats. Therefore, all cat lovers are lesbians who worship bast!

I consider myself to be bisexual, so does that mean I must like both cats and dogs? ;)

Actually, I have a dog, and a lizard, so that would make me a dog and lizard person by default, and I've had lizards for longer than I've had dogs, so...

Gods, this is so confusing! :)

Not trying to make it a general statement.  It's just when I see feminist I think back to what I was seeing and interacting with from the 70's to the mid 90's.  In that regard I suppose I do have a prevailing mindset of what "Pagan Feminist" are and see them against that mold.  Admititly lumping all of them into the same pool in that regard.

Yeah. You know, I'd really appreciate it if you'd stop doing this. Lumping everyone  together like this.

This isn't 1970. It's an outdated, 40 year old stereotype, and it's offensive.

Ummm...I'm not entirely sure that that was the sort of "liking cats" that was meant....

O:-)

Would that be the sharp as shards of glass kind of glitter? I've gotten some nasty paper cuts from that stuff!;)

Seriously though, do you find Her to be a huggy kissy kind of goddess? I'm not saying it's impossible, She is a goddess after all, She can be however She wants. It's just never been my experience. Though, that could be because I'm not that type of person. So...maybe I am being too narrow in my view of Her.

If by "huggy" we mean "like embracing a cactus" and "kissy" we mean "that of a Dementor", then yes.

ok, so She's not like a Dementor, but She's definitely not fuzzy-wuzzy IME. Her ways of showing physical affection are more along the lines of smacking me upside the head or pushing me headlong into something painful that will make me grow, and then laughing at me. The next minute She'll be looking over my shoulder as I eat dinner, telling me I need to give Her my chicken bones.

I just find She doesn't mind my glitter obsession; as it's directly tied to my burlesque career and that is tied to my reclaiming my own sovereignty, it makes sense.

(And yeah, glitter can be dangerous. Which is why I'm quite evil in my obsession with glitter-bombing my friends. :dwink:)
