Not exactly the same....

You know, this might not be quite the same as the topic of this thread, but I was just reminded of the Temple of the Twelve series, which is basically a Pagan-y course of study wrapped up in a work of fiction, and there are people who are working with the Twelve Colours with apparently great success.

See here for an example: http://nornoriel.weebly.com/a-year-of-color.html

I don't know if they count as fictional deities or....something else. I just thought I'd throw it out there.

And apparently someone's working on a series of devotionals based on the Twelve, if it ever comes to pass, it sounds kind of awesome, the notice is two years old though: http://ravenshallpress.weebly.com/1/post/2011/10/staff-updates.html

I worked TotT with Rainbow Brite characters once. It went... better than you would expect, actually.

Yes, that. Sorry, didn't look before I typed.

OK, Jack, SkySamuelle, Olie, Fireof9, and anybody else who's interested, I just launched a new thread--"Writing Your Own Myths"-- in the Stories of the Spirit SIG. You can find it here:

http://www.ecauldron.com/forum/showthread.php?6264-Writing-Your-Own-Myths

Let's see where this goes...
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

I was just wondering if anyone here ever works with deities invented in works of fiction. For example, the pantheons of Terry Pratchett's Discworld, the gods and goddesses of The Legend of Zelda or The Elder Scrolls, or maybe just The Flying Spaghetti Monster. I don't myself, but I was curious about anyone else's opinions or experiences. Do you believe that people can have legitimate relationships or religious experiences with deities that are specifically meant to be viewed as fictional?

I have to admit to working with Raiden from the Mortal Kombat series since my early teens and even after loads of research I still can't exactly workout precisely what He is so Raiden will have to do. Normally I'll say a quick prayer to Raiden when I feel threatened but that has expanded into prayers and offerings before and after martial arts training, grading and demostrations.
