Dragon Age: Origins... Again. I managed to delete my old xBox account and in doing so I deleted all my saved games and progress. Graah

I really need to replay that.  I've got a Dalish elf that didn't finish the game (I've completed all the other origin lines, though).

I've started that game a couple times, only to be distracted by something else.  By the time I get back to it I forget what the hell I was doing and start over.
So, the first 1/3 of the game is amazing.  :D:

I need to play more. (I managed to stumble into a variant of the Dwarf noble start that I haven't seen discussed anywhere in walkthroughs, and I want to see how it comes out in the end!

However, my current time is going to a certain massive wiki project, though I'm hoping to find some time for Dragon Age over Thanksgiving.

What are you playing?

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Though I barely have time for video games, and with my work schedule, I rarely see my guildmates anyway. =\

I'm a huge fan of the whole game :P I recently found out there is a second one now, so I'm rushing to play through this one a few times before I get into the second one. :)

Yeah I picked up the first one when the second came out.  Now part 3 is coming on the next gen consoles. So we're all way behind.

Okay, because Dragon Age is one of my most favourite-est video games, I need to ask: what's the variant? I'm really curious to hear this.

For background, I'm aware of most of the origin storylines, although I've only ever played with the human noble storyline (and 1/3rd with the Alienage elf).

Another "just what it says in the title" thread!

Right now, I'm playing GuildWars 2 on PC, Animal Crossing (GameCube version) on Wii, and Mass Effect 3 on 360 (this is my 12th playthrough).

What are you playing?

I am a Mass Effect junkie! I've played through all three games many times.

Currently....Skyrim (for the third time), Red Dead Revolver, Tomb Raider (the new one), Deux Ex, and Far Cry 3.

PS3 is my system.

I'll preface this by saying there are spoilers for Dragon Age: Origins and possibly Dragon Age 2 in here!

They're not that bad. :) It's disappointing to not be able to play human commoner (although apparently that was one of the options before they nicked it?), but I find playing as the human noble to be incredibly interesting.

Not only do you have to contend with the Blight, you're also personally front and centre with the politics in Ferelden: the family you hail from, the Couslands, holds one of the two terynirs in Ferelden (basically, the most important title after the royals), the other belonging to Loghain's family. Loghain and Howe's involvement with the death of the king becomes incredibly personal, especially when you get reminded of the fact that the Couslands are really the only other family in Ferelden who could take the throne (without revolt)*, and so you become a target to them both by being the (as far as you know) only surviving heir to the Cousland family.

I mean, I am a fool for video game politics. I love it. I want more of it. So I tend to make playthroughs with my human noble a lot. Plus it's lots of fun to romance Alistair and convince him that he does have the strength and nobility to run the kingdom.

If it helps you at all, while DA2 is a sequel to DA:O, it's not directly related in a way? I'll try to avoid spoilers here, but essentially what you do in DA:O DOES effect stuff in DA2, and will transfer over to Dragon Age: Inquisition, you are not playing as the same characters. Isabela was in both, but she wasn't a companion in the first one; Anders is a companion as well, but he was only available in one of the DLCs for DA:O. Depending on what you do in DA:O, you can get different mini quests and interactions with people from the first game, which was really cool!

I think it's definitely worth playing in order, just for continuity sake.

(* There are the Guerrins at Redcliffe, but Eamon I think shoots down the idea pretty easily, especially since he's so fond of Alistair. Also I think because Ferelden is still trying to get back on it's legs as an independent nation, and the idea of being dishonest and not trying their hardest to make sure the legacy of their royal family doesn't stay alive doesn't appeal to them. This is probably a lot of gibberish at the moment, sorry. I just have a lot of feels about Ferelden culture, and I think it fits that Eamon declines trying to take over while knowing Alistair still lives, even if he's in the Grey Wardens. Although this doesn't make him LESS of a threat to the other nobles in Ferelden; I want to say that they don't even find out who Alistair really is under the Landsmeet, but I can't remember now.)

Finally got back onto Guild Wars 2! I fixed the internet problem by ... turning my computer around. (Actually to allow the wireless card antenna to point in the direction of the router, but still. There's a certain sense of incredulity here.) Running around was a level 51 sylvari elementalist feels terrifying, especially as I am prone to the dying thing a lot.

Also I just finished the Battle for Claw Island quest and I just want to cry. No one told me there would be this much heartache.

So, Dwarf noble, (and I'm playing female). You get sent out into the Deep Roads, and you're supposed to get something, and bring it back, and then there's a scene which in the walkthroughs I've read, either you find your older brother dead, or you end up killing him because you know he's going to betray your father and younger brother.

Only, I somehow managed to trigger something where I know that it's the older brother who killed him, and I also know I am totally innocent (but can't prove it, naturally, leading to exile from Orzammar, and onwards to the rest of the game.)

The "You find your brother dead" part is reffed in the walkthroughs (or some of them, anyway) but there were bits of the dialogue and implications that made me think I hit an unusual combo of things. (But it's been four or five months since I did that part, so I do not remember all the details.)

I went and poked at the wiki just to refresh my memory, and I think I get what you mean now? It seems that there are two options when you find out your older brother, Crown Prince Trian, is going to kill you because he thinks you're a threat. Bhelen, your younger brother, I think tells you this, and you have the option of supporting him and thus killing Trian, or denying that Trian would do such a thing. If you deny it and say you won't kill Trian, you'll find him dead in the caves and you're accused of killing him when Bhelen and his party come along. So I guess Bhelen kills him anyways and pins it on you? Is that what you meant?

Which makes me feel all kinds of levels of ooooh because well, see my previous post where I couldn't shut up about human Ferelden politics. Heh.

(Also apparently if you choose not to kill Trian, and regain your noble status, along with some other qualifiers, at the end of the story you'll find out you named your future kid after him. Aww.)

... Now all this talk is making me want to make a dwarf noble! Heh. Orzammar was never my favourite place to go to, but I bet it would have a lot more significance if I played through with that origin rather than human or elf.

Yep. (Politics! Politics make me happy in a game. Speaking of other things I am playing, you will appreciate that this is why making a chart of the Death Eater factions in Alternity made me absurdly happy. Because! Politics! People! With different goals! Ahem.)

My previous playthrough was a large chunk of a elvish mage, and I actually find the dwarf bit more interesting? (I find the fighting less interesting, but the politics and the intercharacter reactions more so?)

And now I want to go play, which is colliding badly with my need to make dinner and be sensible before I work tomorrow.
