I actually don't do Steam, but I know tons of you do. So...what will you buy in the upcoming sale?

Honestly I didn't know they were doing a sale.  I've only downloaded "Freedom Force" and "Call of Cthulhu," and I've barely played either.

I'm a console gamer (PlayStation) but a friend of mine is a PC gamer. She just got the ENTIRE Tomb Raider collection (including the new one) for $20.

They've not officially announced the dates yet, but there are tons of rumors (after all, it is the internet) about when it will happen.

I buy nothing, because I am le poor. But I somehow manage to convince Ogre to buy me things, as he's buying himself things on Steam anyway. ^_^

For the autumn sale he got me Brave New World expansion for Civ 5 and The Binding of Issac. Winter sale I'm asking for Final Fantasy VII and that's it. The other game I want isn't on Steam, and it's going to be the price of several Steam-sale games. (Slowly...wearing...him...down.... And then I'll be able to play my pretty pretty and incredibly badass Norn again. The free trial was not enough.)

We don't have specific plans, but I'm sure something shiny will come up that we will want.  Right now I have hubby hooked on The Secret World, so that has taken over our gaming lives :P

I got a couple of Steam gift cards from my BiL for Christmas. I went out to Steam this morning and they had games I might actually play some on sale at really good prices. I picked up:

Skyrim
Fallen Enchantness
Fallen Enchantness Legendary Heroes
The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing (with all its DLCs)
Reus

Reus may get the most actual play as games last 30 minutes to 2 hours. It's a new take on the old Populous idea of being a God in control of a world. I really liked Populous back in the day, but while I can still play it with Dosbox, it hasn't held up very well.

I picked up Fallen Enchantress and its sequel because I'm still trying to find a game as good as Master of Magic from the mid-1990s. So far, nothing has managed, but these were 75% off and Stardock does Galactic Civilizations II which I like, so I figured I'd give them a chance. Master of Magic is still on my PC via Dosbox, however.

I bought Skyrim just on the off chance that I ever have time to actually play it. Of course, I haven't found time to play Oblivion yet. However, at $7.49, I figured it was worth getting.

I picked up the Van Helsing game because it looked interesting and was cheap.

I'd picked up Fallen Enchantress when it first came out (for the same reasons - GalCivII is amazing and I'm generally a fan of TBS).  I found it a bit...shallow, though Stardock's emails about 'lookit at all the stuff we've added to it' may make your experience a better one.

As for stuff I'm buying myself...haven't looked through yet. I'm tempted to buy Brave New World even if it isn't part of the Sale, just because Civ5 is so awesome. :)

Most people seem to prefer FELH, so I'll start by looking at it. I read a couple of reviews from people who preferred FE because it was a bit more like MoM in that you have random heroes (instead of you-design-them heroes) and the like. When I saw FE was also 75% off ($5), I decided to just get both. So far I haven't had much luck at replacing MoM. I've tried Age of Wonders Shadow magic, Warlock, Eador, etc. and still go back to MoM. However, I now have two more to try. :: fingers crossed ::

My favorite of the Civ series is CivII, although CivIV is very close. Which is good because getting CivII to work well on my modern system is almost more trouble than it is worth. From what I've read about Civ5, it's got more emphasis on pretty than gameplay, although I will probably pick it up and try it in a few years when I can get it for $5. :)

I don't like to spend much money on computer games because chances are I will not like them enough to play them long enough to be worth anything near full price. I'm just not a computer gamer. However, when they are older and heavily discounted, I still pick up a few that look like they might be interesting. Every few years I find one that I really enjoy.

I was wondering if you'd played Age of Wonders; the first game is one of my favorites (though it certainly has balance issues with the Make Your Own Uberhero)

Civ5 changes a fair number of gameplay things (the three that are coming to mind are unit stacking, grid shape, and use of roads), but I still have fun with it.  Totally understand about the not-wanting-it-new thing; I don't think I picked up IV until the entire game+expansions was on sale.

Giving FE another shot - don't have FELH at the moment, but maybe Stardock will get some more of my money after all. :)

I'm cheap. I'll only buy computer games when they are steeply discounted. Since I'm not really a computer gamer and don't have to have the latest and greatest, this work for me. Heck, since I will not spend much money keeping up with the latest in uber-fast and uber-expensive grahics cards, many new today games will not even work (well) on my system. However, they'll be cheap and still new to me when I buy a new PC in 3-4 years and get today's great graphics for only a few dollars extra. :)

This assumes I ever find time to play it. Oblivion has been on my machine for almost two years now and I've barely started it. :: SIGH ::
