If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Shin Megami Tensei, Anyone?
« on: July 13, 2011, 10:25:54 pm »
Am I the only Megaten (and spinoffs) fan on here or are there others lurking about?

I've played almost every one that has been released in North America, and I am seriously looking forward to the release of Persona 2: Innocent Sin on PSP! I'm also looking forward to Devil Survivor 2 in 2012. I find it kind of funny that an SMT game (even if it is a spinoff) is being released in 2012. (For those who aren't in the know, the end of the world as we know it is a common feature of these games, in one game it...happens about one minute into the game).

I make ceramic art and am currently taking commissions. Have dream altar ware you\'ve always wanted, or a statue for a deity or spirit that you could never find? PM or email me and I\'ll see what I can do ;)

Ugh, that boss is annoying!

If it helps, I just ran up to it and used Holy Dance repeatedly (practically all my demons and humans had it by then). I just ignored the little flies for the most part, although I believe skills which remove status effects work on them, if they're giving you trouble.

My husband plays them. I help out. ;) He has Persona 2 for PSP on order, yay! I enjoy the story lines.

I'm currently playing through Persona 3 and...I just have to say, the, um...gun thing seemed to come out of nowhere. I know there was foreshadowing, but...I don't think any amount of foreshadowing could have prepared me for -that-.

It's a fun game though, just bizarre.

Are you talking about the Evokers? They're great conversation starters, as my brother said when he saw me playing it: "Did that guy just shoot himself in the head?!"

Someone pointed out that it might be a reference to the high rate of suicides among Japanese high school students, but I've also heard the explanation that the user is "killing" a part of themselves to "make room" for their Persona to emerge.

IMO, all SMT games are bizarre in their own way; it's what makes them awesome. I think Persona 3 is definitely in the "trippy" category, as is Nocturne, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment if you haven't played Innocent Sin first.

I just finished Persona 4 and am about halfway through Devil Survivor :)

The only one I haven't gone back and played is Persona 3. One of my friends has the original, but I was just wondering for those of you who have seen both, did FES add enough content to be worth my buying it instead of just playing the original for free?

I have both because I'm an Atlus whore and FES has another chapter known as "The Answer" that takes place after the events of the game (sort of like a gigantic playable epilogue). It also includes new events, new costumes, a weapon fusion system, new Personae, think of it as the director's cut edition of the original game + a brand new game ("The Answer" is more of a dungeon-crawler).

I also bought Persona 3 Portable, and it's basically the original game but with the option to play as a girl, with some gameplay tweaks from Persona 4 (such as the option to control your party members, a "Guard" command, and giving the party the ability to save you from a mortal blow) but it doesn't include "The Answer".

In sum, FES is well worth the price, but if you own a PSP and like Persona 4's battle system, go with P3P. Otherwise, FES is the definitive version of P3 IMHO.

Decisions, decisions :/

The PSP version sounds awesome but you've pretty well got me sold on FES. I'm a sucker for extra plot. Maybe I'll have to play both. :D

I feel I should warn you that if you don't like a certain character *coughAigiscough*, FES might be a nightmare for you. Personally, I think the story only gets annoying around the end, but your mileage may vary.
