I had way too much fun with the first two games to put me off the series entirely.

Oh heck, yes. Other than the end it's a fantastic game that I'm already playing again (to try a different character class) and probably will several times.

Absolutely. Besides if you turn it off after a certain poignant exchange in the Citadel it's not ruined! :P

I'm not sure what happened w/the writing choices, Bioware seemed to be making some awesome decisions in the first two games, the little things that were annoying in both seemed to be addressed and repaired in the following entries. It's really strange that they face planted so hard on this point.

It's inevitable that more entries in the ME 'verse will be made, here's hoping they pick themselves up and get back to being awesome...

It could be the Star Wars syndrome. It may be time for the "extended universe" to take over from the creators.

Could be.  BioWare did such a great job on the first Knights of the Old Republic... the plot was on par with any of the movies, the big 'twist' putting it on a level with the holycow! moment in Empire.
Sad to see that they buggered the ending of the Mass Effect series.  Everything I've read about the franchise has been epic praise.  It's still on my list to play but no sense of urgency now.  I'm too busy getting into Assassin's Creed so I can be ready when 3 hits in a few months...

Glad there are so many geeks here, btw.  :p

The flesh-out is, supposedly,  some extra FMV and narration.  Not playable,  but also free to download.

I need to play the multiplayer.

Okay, I've now tried the multiplayer and it rocks.  Seriously, you guys.

If anyone wants to team up to improve galactic readiness, my Gamer Tag is the same as my name here. :)

Also, if you've not done it, the ME3 app on iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad is worth a download.  It is free, and doing the Galaxy at War missions also improves galactic readiness.
