* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

I'd like to go into detail, but there are no spoiler tags on this site.

It's possible that Randall turned it off for non-staff Cauldronites, but if, in the formatting clickys just above the text box, you have a fat-looking underlined letter A, you could try (highlight to read) switching to white text for the spoilery part!

Ah, that works! I'll try that!

Here's what I did in full, major SPOILERS for Markarth:
I ended up being sent to prison (tried to fight off the guards, didn't work), decided to talk to the King in Rags, picked all the "I hate you I hate you I hate you" dialogue options. I went along with his plan because for some reason it didn't occur to me that I could just kill him, killed that unlucky guy and went with them through the underground passageway. Then once they were involved in a big free-for-all with the guards, I turned on them and slaughtered them all when they were on the run to their base camp.

The funny thing is, the game had me flagged as a friend, but they ended up killing my horse, so I killed everyone in the camp and took the bounty for them. Seriously, don't hurt my horse!

So, who else can't wait for Skyrim? ;)

So hubby and I got an Xbox for Christmas, and because I was hearing so much about this game (and because a convo with my BIL went like this, "what games should I get, I like Zelda", "you like Zelda, get Skyrim!") I bought Skyrim today.

I've never played any of the Elder Scrolls games before, what should I know?

Be prepared to never see your family or friends again! :P

Okay, seriously now, this is what I did when I first booted up Morrowind (that seems like ages ago): walk around, look at the pretty scenery, talk to people, experiment with different play styles. It's easy to be overwhelmed because there's so much to do and see, go at your own pace. Start picking stuff up and moving it around if you want. The whole concept of the series is that you should be able to do whatever you want. Don't want to complete the main quest? Great! Want to walk from one end of the map to the other? That's fine too! Want to wander around picking wildflowers? You can!

Unlike some of the other Elder Scrolls games, in Skyrim it is possible to kill off key figures for the main quest...especially if 30 dragons show up at once (don't ask).

Many of the best quest lines are hidden and stumbled upon accidentally.  Explore your surroundings, look in every container and on every shelf.

Choose your character wisely.  Make use of your racial attributes.

Some of the things I'd normally mention (different leveling system, lock picking, etc) I won't, since you've not played the other games.  I LOVE this game; if there were co-op play, I'd offer to play with you. :)

One thing, don't mess with the Giants or their Mammoths. You may've taken out a Dragon or two early on but the Giants are not to be trifled with lightly. If you do mess with them try to lead them back to a city w/a gate so you can hide behind it since they're usually too large to get past the lintel, also the guards will help you kill 'em.

Hi, Asch - don't forget, when you're deleting all the text from a quote, to make sure the two bits of quote code are on separate lines.  This is just a reminder (not even the kind with the red box); they're a pretty easy mod fix and I don't mind doing them occasionally, but they get old fast, so (like Marilyn, who said much the same thing elsewhere) I'm hoping that adding reminders to fixes will cut the numbers back.

Thanks,
Sunflower

This. Do not mess with giants.
I had about seven dragon souls and I wasn't able to kill my first giant until LEVEL 20! (To put this in perspective, I beat the game at lvl. 22.)

I think I wacked my first pair around level 6 but it involved a LOT or running away/sniping and the repeated deaths of my housecarl :D

Repeated deaths? How did you bring them back?

I managed to kill a frost troll once but ended up accidentally killing my housecarl in the process so I backed up and couldn't beat him again. Ended up sneaking around and running away from him.
