Survival and Individuality.

Prompt: Why does everyone deserve a reasonable chance at survival? What happens when people don't have it?

In what situation?  Because generally, when people talk about survival these days, they are talking if everything falls apart  - or Zombie Apocalypse if you want to keep it light.  Is that what you mean?
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

It's a discussion of an article in HeartShadow's book, Kindling Our Stars. It's about FlameKeeping, we just abbreviated the thread titles. Hence it's in the FK SIG board, but it's easy to miss that if you just click the new posts button. ;)

I'll try to make sense, will probably have more to add later too. This one should get a good discussion going. :)

I'm against preventable suffering. People shouldn't be starving or sick if it can be prevented. Each life is valuable, and recognition of that helps hold society together.

Struggling to survive makes people desperate. Rules and laws are good for society, but they only work when everyone has a fair chance at survival. If somebody is hungry enough, they're going to steal food to feed themselves.

I could be literal here and say that, without survival, no one will be left to go on.

However, in this context, everyone deserves a reasonable chance at survival in order to even the odds for contribution.  When people worry about surviving, their skills are directed toward that goal and nothing more because there's no time for anything else.  When survival is guaranteed, there's more of a chance to reach potential.
