It is the same for me, Devo.  I really believe Neb.y led me to FlameKeeping...even though I didn't know it was He at the time.  After all, choices must be made in life and FK requires that of its adherents.

At the beginning of the year, Set altered my path, trying to help me connect my two halves (his words) to make them whole. That's when the Shinto stuff started. That and Kemetic go well together, but I am beginning to wonder if FK might not be a good binding piece. Glue, as it were.

It leaves a lot to ponder. I'm definitely very interested in FK now, that's for sure.

I suddenly have a vision of Shad holding a paint brush standing next to a huge vat of glue labeled "FK", lobbing it onto people's beliefs as they try to balance and contain them all in their hands, and saying, "Here, let me get that for ya!"

*looks entirely too innocent for that sort of thing*

*sidles sideways to better hide the vat of glue*

One of the main tenets of FlameKeeping is that it is our job to try and improve the world around us.  What do you do?

I had to ponder this one for a while before I could see anything that I do. It's nothing big but lots of little things.

I help people whenever I can. I'm friendly and polite and I try to show compassion to other people especially when it's hard because they've done something that upsets me.

I try to use resources responsibly and and reduce, re-use and recycle as much as possible. I also teach my daughter why these things are important.

When I was young my mum told me about how a smile can travel. That if you smile at someone you see in the street that might cheer them up and they smile at the next person they see, who then smiles at the next person they see and so on. With that in mind I smile at every person I make eye contact with.

My goal in life since I was a young teen has been to make my corner of the world a better place and touch as many lives around me as I can. I'm not sure if it's a goal I can acheive but maybe all of the little things are steps along the way.

It's really good to read that others think the little things count. I think we can all so easily get overwhelmed with the size and amount of problems in our world. I mean when there are people starving what good does a smile do? But a smile can make a big difference to the person being smiled at.

Sorry, that turned into a bit of a ramble. I hope it made some kind of sense!

... You'll also be amazed with the compassion you feel for fellow worker-drones after having worked as a Food Lion cashier for two years...
...I smile at cashiers/waiters/etc and offer them compassion and humor, when I know they've probably been on their feet eight hours and have had to deal with some very cross, impatient people. I listen to friends in distress. Apparently I'm a good poor man's therapist. ;D

Agreed. I was never "negative" to people who work in retail, but now that I'm stuck there I find that I'm extra-nice to my fellow drones, especially when they are having a difficult time. Knowing that managers consider it a perk to be able to unload whatever personal sadistic needs they have gives things a whole new dimension. When there's been a problem someplace, I fill out the comment card praising the employees, if they have tried to make the slightest effort.

I think one of the reasons that FK and Kemeticism go together so well is that there isn't much guidance on how to "Live in Ma'at". The "negative confessions" are pretty worthless in that regard: "He-who-Acts-as-he-Wishes who came forth from Antinaiopolis, I have not waded in water." Really.

I think everyone should have to work in retail and/or food- just once. So that way, they really understand what it's like to be everyone's biotch. Maybe it would help to create a more respectful society :P

Agreed. It's a very humbling experience (both in positive and negative ways) to work in jobs like this. Also, I think I learned more about human psychology from my Food Lion job than I ever did from the three psych classes I took. ;D

I shall embrace the light. I shall weather the storm.
I shall endure.

I've said it before: SuperTarget taught me about the incredible power of politeness and a smile. It absolutely made my day when people smiled when I said hello, and oh gods, when they said, "Thank you."

I now always say hello to my cashiers, ask them how they are, tell them "no worries" if they are new and fumbling (because my god I have been there). I do this even if I am irritated, in a hurry, tired, or moody. I will not take out my bad day on other people, because I hate it when people did that to me.

I haven't worked in retail but I have to say working in assisted living communities/nursing homes has definitely given me a new appreciation for words like "thank you" and "please". Working as a caregiver, I'm essentially at the beck and call of everyone in the building. I'll probably have to work in the food industry when I get back to college in the fall so we'll see what that teaches me.

I take that "improving the universe" mindset into my work. Yes, I get paid, but I could be cold and impersonal and still get paid the same. I try, though I definitely have my off moments, to be as kind, understanding and patient with the residents. It's not much, but if I can make someone laugh who is in as much pain as some of them are or to entertain them enough to get their minds off their troubles for moment, I think in a very small way that's improving the universe. Like other people have said, those small things add up to make big differences and given those things aren't terribly hard to do, there's no reason we should do them. Whatever our little things may be for each of us.

Just some thoughts.
