I vote yes. Trek is geek-mainstream, but Firefly still has some 'cult following' cachet.

Pat Sajak called himself a Star Trek fan on Wheel of Fortune the other night. It's officially mainstream.

No excuses! It is still a version of Star Trek- hand in your geek card immediately (unless you can mitigate yourself....)

;) :D:

Personally I liked Voyager - it was Enterprise I could do without

My opinion - Enterprise is the predecessor to JJ-Trek - both in an alternate universe, separate from TOS, TNG, DS-9 and Voyager

Hmmm..... I'll think about it.

If my fellow geeks could cast their votes please?

Today I decided that I would do one of the big jobs in my office- sort out the DVD collection. It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be! I didn't realise we had quite so many! I tend to collect series' of things. It doesn't seem so bad until I tried to get them all together. 9 series of 1 thing, 7 seasons of another, the complete collections of 5 or 6 others, plus lots of other stuff (I have 46 discs of Dr Who alone!).

At least it is done and out of the way now (and off my to do list). I've just emptied all my bookshelves and I'm going to organise those now.

I'm tired, but it is a good kind of tired! :D:

When I went through the cleaning I kept the discs but ditched the cases.  They're the real space-grabbers.  The discs now live in a convenient flip folder that can be tucked away just about anywhere.  The only DVDs I gave away were the ones I had upgraded with BDs in the ol' collection.
I did keep a few of the cases for my mostfavoritest series and box sets, they take up about 18" worth of space left of the mantel.

We got rid of Star Trek and Buffy when we moved, but we kept Firefly and Babylon 5. I'll note that Star Trek is on Netflix, at least here in the States, and that weighed in our decision.

All those except B5 can be streamed through Amazon's service as well, and the definition is as good as standard DVD, which is fine for older TV shows anyway.  I've pondered going into a full-Trek mode, starting with the original series, then the first 6 films, then TNG, then the remaining films... but damn.  That's a commitment.

At least you stand a chance! I'm not trekkie at all - I think I need to go figure out which of my big pile of fantasy novels my geek card is playing bookmark in so I can give it back!

--Chabas

You can still be a geek without being a Trekkie- it's the whole 'having them all and then getting rid of them' thing....

Looks like you can keep it for now. Any further transgressions will be severely pointed at!

Enterprise definitely doesn't count! It has absolutely nothing to do with TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager.

(I wish it WAS in an alternate reality.......) :p

In my opinion, Voyager is an acceptable Trek to give away.  If it had been TOS or TNG, I would have demanded the geek card turned in. But Voyager? Eh. 'S Fine. ;)

I would toss DS-9 before Voyager - and TNG/Voyager are about neck-n-neck for me - toss TOS or the Remastered, immediate confiscation of geek-card AND probation forever

<- Was raised on TOS, the Remastering of the SFX just made it better

Oh, I loved DS9. I know it was very flawed (and that it shifted gear to copy the far-superior Babylon 5 half way through), but I had a soft spot for its comedy and occasional weirdness.

And I was raised on TNG :P

Haven't seen the updated versions.  Does Kirk still shoot first?

Whoops, wrong universe.

Spring Cleaning this year includes CLEAN THE WHOLE ROOM and PURGE ALL THE THINGS. Basically, over the fall and winter my room has become a direct reflection of my mental state, as it does, and so it is a complete and total mess in which nothing can be accomplished. Once the room is clean and functional, I can start sorting through the boxes and boxes of crap that moved down from CT with me.

I have not started yet. I have done a lot of thinking about starting, but anxiety. Yay. I just read the link Jack posted, and I think I am going to reread it and then start on some list making, as that helps me focus.

Cleaning anxiety is one of the things I've been talking about in therapy- my big issues seem to be a) feeling overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of what needs to get done and b) not knowing where to start, because each thing seems to need something else done first. My therapist and I identified emptying out my closet as a good first step, so I am aiming to have at least started it by my next session (...which is in two days, crap) and to have it at least halfway done, if not completely done, by the following session. We'll see how it goes! (Note to self: breathe!)

Cleaning out my closet was a huge step for me in being able to tackle my anxiety around cleaning my room. Just being able to throw so much out and not having it haunt me was a huge relief.

...

I'm currently doing some 20/10s (actually, should get back to it right now) in trying to clean up my room. My goal for today is to make the floor empty enough that I can properly vacuum it. And hopefully get some laundry folded and another load going. Keeping up on laundry is hard. :/
