Things thit drive you nuts at home
« on: October 02, 2013, 04:51:05 am »
I was just doing some ironing (and getting very annoyed at a shirt) and thought about asking other people- what really gets on your nerves around the house? For example, I really hate when my hubby and my daughter take their shirts off without undoing buttons, so when I come to iron them, I spend more time undoing buttons than I do with the rest of the pile! I also truly hate greasy cold water left in the kitchen sink..... *shudder*

What drives you completely gaga around the house (or garden- whatever you like)?

Also, yes- I know I made a spelling mistake in the title of the thread. It's early and I haven't slept, 'k? :o

I do the grocery shopping in our house, for a variety of reasons that amount to "It's just easier that way". This works fine for most things - not so much for things that I don't personally use. Because somehow, saying "could you get me Y? I'm running low." is MUCH harder than "Do we have anymore Y?" when you just cleared out the last bit the day after I did the shopping for the week, and in fact, never let me know that you'd opened the reserve package I always make a point of buying.

Fortunately, it's not so much a problem for me, because if it's something *I* use, I generally make note to get a new package of whatever it is when I open the spare package. Husband, however, regularly ends up doing without something for a few days (or having to do an extra run to the supermarket) because he'll use up two bottles of lemonade and THEN go "Do we have anymore?" rather than letting me know he opened the second one so I can get new before we run out.

Dishes left in really weird places.

okay, I'm guilty of it too, but as *I* am the one doing the dishwasher, I know where *I* leave dishes.  But I find things in weird places - especially old cups of milk.  I mean, really.  EWW.

I have to admit, I found a cold cup of coffee in the cupboard above the microwave the other day (please bear in mind that I'm allergic to the damned stuff, so it really wasn't mine). When I called Noel on it, all he could say was 'I wondered where I'd left that!'... How can you leave a coffee cup in a cupboard and forget where you put it? Especially when it's full of (at the time) hot coffee?! :hdsk:

When the guys pile up bottles and boxes next to the recycling box, rather than in it. If it's full you empty it, don't start making pyramids out of the items that wont fit.
On a similar note, dirty clothes go in the basket, not around it.

Finally, don't leave sponges and scourers sitting in pools of dirty water, the rack is right there!

We have a shoerack, dear family. This is for putting shoes on. Shoes and boots go on the shoerack - not randomly strewn around the hall.

The second gaga thing, is that if I leave clean laundry on the sofa it doesn't magically fold itself... :p Stumps me every time. I need a folder fairy, I think...

(For the sink, I've managed to Flylady-train my husband. It gets cleaned after every use.)

I love SJ, but their untidiness drives me bonkers. There are always clothes everywhere- currently I'm sitting on the bed, and I can see that SJ's side of the bed AND the floor next to it is covered with clothes - I have no idea if they're clean or dirty. Then there's the paperwork all over the living room - I keep gently suggesting that we get a place for it to live, like a desk, but that doesn't go down well. And the coffee cups, and the plates, and the damp towel on the bathroom floor, and the ironing board and clothes hanger that haven't been put away, and and and... *Sigh*

People who pile garbage on the counter above the garbage can instead of going that extra inch and actually dropping it into the can. Why?? You've made it all the way into the kitchen, are standing in front of the garbage can, why can you not use it??

Two things, is it really that hard to put a new roll of toilet paper on the holder? Really?  And why must he wait until we are getting dressed to tell meshe needs laundry since he is out of shirts, underwear etc.  Did you not notice when you took the second to last pair, or the last?  Grrrr.

My grandmother would horde dishes, and when I found them, they had black mold growing on them. She would try to dig them out of the trash and wash them, so I had to resort to smashing them and throwing them out in a random trashcan in the neighborhood. Since my younger brother is living with her, she is no longer doing this.

A common pet-peeve, but irks me nevertheless... when he leaves the toilet-seat up. How many times do I have to explain that the cat will play and drink in that water if it is made accessible??!

In my house, the battle goes like this:

Me - *puts toilet paper in holder*
Husband - *takes toilet paper out of holder*

Repeat over and over again.   I have no idea what he has against the toilet paper holder.

When I've JUST cleaned the kitchen and the hubby cooks/makes something and leaves the mess "for later."

The fact that he blows his nose and leaves the boogers on the shower wall. This was the main reason we no longer share a bathroom. I'd be just minding my own business having a little twirl and wham! See a booger and feel the urge to vomit.

But my bathroom is the largest so I have a litter box in there which is FINE but scooping the litter box and then leaving the scoop on my bathroom counter? NOT FINE.
