I honestly don't know how I wrote anything before Scriv and Evernote.

Don't use Evernote - have it on the Netbook, but most of my work is on my Vista Desktop, so haven't checked it out

I also make sure to have everything backed up - Desktop and Netbook share links to Box.com and weekly I copy my Box account (15gb right now) to a jump drive - so 4 places; 3 physical and 1 cloud.

Yep. Also Scrivener will export to MOBI (which is Kindle format). Scriv isn't free, but if you already have it it's an option. (Scriv would probably be awesome for putting together a BOS. Or maybe I just think that because I'm a Scriv groupie. ;))

Scriv is indeed awesome. (Incidentally, one of the things I use all the time when travelling is syncing Scriv to SimpleNote, so I can work on things while I'm not near my home computer. Did that this weekend, since I'm in Boston. [1])

Another option (and what I actually do for ritual, is save it as a PDF, and load the PDF on a tablet reader. (Again, how you do this depends on your tech: you can email them to a Kindle address (for which I think there is a very very small fee) or sideload it. Or if you have a device that will load from Dropbox, stick it in there.

(I use GoodReader on my iPad, which I also use for knitting charts - I use the annotation tools to mark where I am in the pattern, but it's a perfectly good PDF reader.)

[1] My mother is in that stage of life where this is her last apartment move before assisted living, almost certainly. Being Pagan means always having an answer to the question "Would you like four sets of the ancestral china?" (Because really, I could use those in ritual for Samhain.)

There are lots of ways to get Word documents to a Kindle, including plugging it into a computer and moving the file manually or emailing it to the Amazon-assigned email address. If you have a Fire it's even easier.

I just have a Kindle App, though I do intend to buy one in the near future.

I'm not sure if Scriv-like free software like yWriter5 would export to Mobi as well.... Tana? I know you use yWriter; any idea if it does?

No freaking idea.
I tried to use it... found it not the right thing for me.
Finally tried Scrivener and never looked back.

Not really?
I have about four projects on German right now, so I doubt I'll do more in English besides the shorts that are anyway up on my blog.

So at the moment I am considering creating a book of shadows to put on my Kindle. I've tried keeping hand written ritual and spell books, and frankly my handwriting is terrible, and when I screw a page up I am disheartened and give up on the whole thing!

Has anyone here ever done this or is thinking of doing this?

I think that's a terrific idea!

I kept meaning to make my own BoS, but never really did. Last Christmas I got a lovely journal from a student: Black with gold designs and a magnetic catch to keep it closed. I'm going to try and dig up the scant collection of spells and rituals I wrote down and transfer them into it. Maybe when I've got that journal filled up, I'll see about making an electronic version.
I love a good metallurgical take on the phrase "What the F---?"
