Tips for praying
« on: February 04, 2012, 12:01:35 am »
I was born Protestant but changed into Norse pagan when I was given a choice which I find naturally feels better, I was wonder others how they pray, such as where, and there posture, I have 3 boys and a girl on the way since I had kids I have been overwhelmed and lost time to meditate and pray and I lost touch, my mind is hard to stop as much has gone down hill.

If anyone could give advice

I'm a Hellenic Pagan and I usually just pray when and where I need to. Unless I'm addressing a cthonic deity, I jusy open my arms to the heavens above, call on the deities or deities I wish to address and say my piece. Some, however, have a more structured practice.

On the Norse path it is a common gesture to raise both hands in the air (much like the Algiz rune) when praying. Most people do not kneel, but there are also many historical sources stating that kneeling was an appropriate practice as well. You'll have to decide for yourself.

The actual words you can say usually mention the deity's attributes and myths, and then ask for something, in return for a gift that you will give them.

These two articles describe prayer brilliantly and you would do well to read them.

That's just a very simple overview from a heathen perspective. Much much more could be said on the subject of prayer.

To be honest, I usually just say " Please help me with ____ " in my mind if I'm not at home. If I'm at home, I raise my hands up to the sky and pray that way.
You can also check this link out :The Role of Prayer in Wicca ( I know it's an article about wicca, but it also work with paganism or any other religion )
