Here, too. Only the storm sewers are still iced over, so today there's a spot on my street where the water is up to the bumpers on cars. I saw one SUV throw up a rooster-tail that completely drenched 2 other cars, that was just rude.

I know these feels. I am seeing quite a few people out and about taking ice picks to where the drains are, as some streets are just completely flooding up. I think I'd prefer flooding and slush to some back roads right now which have crevaces about a handspan deep in the snow that causes you to get one side of your wheels stuck or damage your car, or ice bumps that are so large they could probably crack something on the underside of your car.

What signs of spring are springing up in your area? Or autumn, for all the down-under folks?

The leaves are starting to come out on some of the trees.  Crocuses and daffodils are blooming, irises and tulips are above ground but not flowering quite yet.  Roller coaster temperatures through the week.  Usually we have a few days in the 50s and 60s F (10s C) and then a couple days in the 30s-40s F (around 5 C), followed by more days in the 50s/60s F.

Oh yeah, and getting 6-7" (15 cm) of very wet snow that is mostly gone by the next day.  Nothing holds the essence of early spring like wet, melty snow.  I hate snow in general, but this is helping keep the wildfires away I'm sure.

Well, the geese have flown away north, the robins right behind them, hyacinth blooming, forsythia is blooming, I can't keep 2 of my dogs in the back yard, and my neighbor borrowed my lawnmower and did his yard and mine. When I go out to the car she is green with tree pollen, and I've started taking my allergy meds again.

Yup it's spring.

What an interesting perspective.  When I lived north of you (Michigan), the arrival of the geese and robins indicated spring.  For you in the southeast, it is their departure.  And now that I live in Colorado, the geese and robins live here year round.

Oh, speaking of geese: I've already seen about four in the past week. Gives one a little bit of hope that spring is truly on it's way, in the face of April snowstorms.

What signs of spring are springing up in your area?

The mourning doves are doing their evening cooing and the sage is blooming violet. And the bees are swarming my tangerine tree. There are so many I literally thought there was a hive.

And I spent two hours yesterday double-digging a plot of land for potatoes, thyme, and carrots, and pruning back the sage so the raspberry bush (technically still a stick) has sunlight. It's gonna get up to ninety on Tuesday and then drop back to drippy and chilly.

One of my friends decided she would get her hair cut the day I decided to do so. Accidental hair-twinning ideas sprung forth and now I may have to wait a little longer for my appointment with the scissors so neither of us feels weird about it.

Short hair's a sign of spring, right? :D:

I need to add a sign that just happened today.

Lots of doves cooing here too.  The bushtit (I'm secretly a 12-year-old boy...giggle) family that has built their nest in the same red cedar branch has completed the 2014 model.

Oh, and I spent too much money at the nursery yesterday.  Definitely a sign of spring...

Pot holes.

Mud.  And frost heaves.  And mud.

The glorious warmth when it breaks 50*F/10*C (or even almost 60/15 a few days ago) and the air smells of melting snow and you can finally open the windows for a whole 5 minutes.

And the mud.

The hummingbirds are building nests in our birch trees and the snails are having their own little habitat built so they don't screw with my garden.

The Blue Bonnets are popping up, and the trees are turning that wonderful bright green! Plus, new babies everywhere. :D

I have found hummingbirds in my area!! They're so tiny, I thought they were bugs at first. They may be babies, just starting to fly around, or they're just tiny. Either way, they're adorable!

Today I went out with my 2 year old to a little park nearby.  There was a little boy about the same age there with his grandfather.  This little boy kept picking flowers and bringing them to my little girl with a smile.  Standing there in the sunshine with my hands full of spring flowers, watching these two younglings playing together I really felt moved by the season.  It's spring!  :)
