Odd pondering...
« on: July 05, 2015, 10:38:45 pm »
I just realized that every time I end up back in school... I turn back to my witchy path much more solidly than when I'm not in school. As in my altar gets re-arranged, I probably do 5x as many spells (mostly contrentration and motivation spells as well as "please let me pass this huge final" spells) and I spend all my study breaks reading.

I'm trying to sort this out but having some wandering thoughts and figured I'd ask the Cauldron folk... are there events in your life that make your path/practice/faith stronger? Are there times when you turn to it more than typical?

I'm actually taking advantage this time. I've got it down to a method... 45 minutes studying, 15 minutes reading on the Cauldron or the Book of T or over on the Seeking website :D Never been so focused!

This is not specifically a religious practice thing for me, but I find that it's easier for me to fit something into a moderately busy schedule than a nearly empty one. I think something about having to find time and actually schedule stuff just makes me more likely to get things done. But if I get too far to either end of the busy-ness scale, I just start procrastinating.

I'm better at active practice once Wep Ronpet comes around, and then I tend to keep it up for a few months before it slides back into something more passive.

I'm hoping that doing my own calendar this year will help me keep things moving.

That sounds a great idea! I should really try that.

That's so interesting, I feel like I'm the complete opposite. During the semester I fit in tiny rituals or tarot readings when I can but as soon as the semester is over, my summer or winter break is full of witchy and spiritual activities. Something about having that time to myself, and stepping away from my typical school life draws me very intensely to spiritual practice - even though during the semester I have more things to do spells for and there are so many more pagan events happening around town.

Partly I think it has to do with being in an academic environment that tends to shun or belittle faith and spirituality. Once I'm away from that I feel more freed to explore and express that side of myself. This semester I am trying to dedicate more time to ritual, in hopes of balancing things out a little better (and coping with stress). As mentioned in a previous post, scheduling time on a calendar is quite helpful. So far so good!

I feel like that may have to do with the fact that while you're in school, you have a more structured and disciplined life so you feel more inclined to be on top of your tasks.  Whereas in the summer, it's free flowing and you may be more forgetful.

I'm more like the other member who mentioned they are more productive during the summer or other times off.  Any day I have off, the first thing I think to do is a ritual!

I've actually found this to be the case for me, too. If I don't have much to do, I end up procrastinating a lot. A full schedule keeps me focused (unless it's too full, at which point I often end up crashing).

As far as my religious practice, school's actually been slowing me down a bit. I have a semi-developed altar, but I've only in the last couple weeks been making time for prayer and ritual. As I move into the school year and get re-used to the work, I'm hoping to incorporate more religious structure into my life. Especially with Saule- last summer, I had a morning ritual that I did for her, and the lack of connection with her's a little bit hard to get used to.
