Connecting felt feeling of ancient pagans and todays 'Tebow' Christians

The phenomenon of being 'close' to one's god is probably a modern one. However, it exists across almost all religions. There is nothing in any one religion that makes it more susceptible to this approach to god/s. It is more about (late) modern culture than it is about a specific religion or theology.

If we were not both already married, I would be down on one knee right now. XD

Oh my god you're married?!?!? No, you just crushed all my hopes and dreams in one fell swoop. D: D: D:
Maker, though the darkness comes upon me,
I shall embrace the light. I shall weather the storm.
I shall endure.
What you have created, no one can tear asunder.

Not only am I married, I'm gay married! My marriage cancels out the marriages of at least five heterosexual evangelical Christians.

*sobsob* But I wanted to be gay married to yooooou. Oh well. I'll get gay married to my fiancée instead.

That way we can wreck twice as many Christian marriages! Woo!

Wait, wait...I thought it ruined all heterosexual marriages!  I couldn't figure out why mine wasn't.  I always figured y'all weren't doing it hard enough.  ;)

Nah, it's just the heterosexual marriages of those who are antigay marriage.  The rest of us are safe.  Sunflower backed out on me (it was you , sunflower?) that I was going to run away with once it was legal in Illinois and we were going to leave the sprouts with their daddies.  Once civil unions were legal, she backed out on me.  Sob.  I have to stay with my husband, only had him for 23 years, I guess I can stand it for a few more.

All hail thread drift.

Quote from: LAGoff;115163
That's why I only mentioned Nazareth and Jerusalem- circa 30 of common era.
(Today, one could argue that the 'pagans' are the hicks in the bible belt{roughly, 'the country'}, and the sophisticates{who the hicks should look to to get caught up} are the Manhattan/Hollywood/Zen/New Agers in the big city; but, as you say, with the internet, those boundaries don't really apply any more in the physical sense of heath/city.

I assume that the paganism of today is roughly similar to the paganism before the common era; but I cant be sure unless I can read a testimony from the daily felt feeling standpoint of an ancient practitioner(s).  There's got to be one pagan writer before 30 CE(after that we cant be sure if they were contaminated by the powerful emerging force of Christianity) who wrote of his daily walk with Mithra, or Adonis, or Horus, Tammuz, Ishtar, Marduk, etc.
I assume India and the far east in general was, and is now full of uncontaminated by Christianity/Islam paganism.  Perhaps I should look there for these writings because perhaps the Christians(and Muslims) destroyed all the(European/Mediteranean/Middle Eastern) pagan writings.

Again, I am sorry for putting you down.

You are rude. You keep putting things in parenthesis and brackets like you're purposely trying to confuse people. I don't see why they are necessary in most of your posts.
You keep layering in veiled insults and then apologizing, which would be ok, EXCEPT you keep doing it over and over. You can only apologize so many times before your words do not mean a thing. If you want help I believe it would be best to apologize and then refrain from adding more insults.
Also, I live in the "bible belt" and saying that I am a country hick and implying that I am uneducated is extremely rude and very bad manners. Especially when you are asking for something. Stereotyping people is wrong for many reasons. You know what they say about assuming right? It makes an ASS of U and ME.

Just saying.

You messed up the quote so it looks like you were saying this about my messages. I was very confused for a minute or two.

Unfortunately, the complete hack job LAGoff reliably makes of quoting means that people who follow up normally produce gibberish quoting as well.

I'm cynically impressed, honestly.

I agree and I am laughing too. He ([lagoff]) makes things hard to follow {confusing} and I am still deciding if he does it on purpose just to rile [piss off] people.
