Painting Plaster?
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:35:50 pm »
I've just had the idea that I could buy a plaster statue like this for my altar: http://www.plastercraft.com/web_store.cgi?page=st121-venus-bath-statue.html&cart_id=9675272_32041

...and paint it myself! Has anyone ever done anything like this? I've tried sculpting my own but I find I am very little good at it, so I thought this would help me contribute to the statue creatively, while also being appealing to me aesthetically. Any tips?

My mom and stepdad did some stuff like that.

John really wasn't all that good at it. Mom, OTOH, is an artist and her stuff looked REALLY good. So if you can paint, you'll probably enjoy it. If you can't, it will probably frustrate you. :)

I have painted plaster (at least, I think it was plaster) once or twice, a few years ago. I don't think that I did anything special to prep it, and I used regular acrylic paint from the craft store. (It was a fairy statue. I wonder what happened to it......)

I know Mom and John were working with greenware, but I've no idea what the process was for what they did. :(
