Windows Live Email Issues
« on: October 23, 2011, 01:13:49 pm »
I really need Technical Geek assistance.  I've Googled everthing i can think of and still cannot resolve this.

My computer runs Windows 7.  It has  Windows Live Mail on it... that is set for my old Dial-up connection.  We've recently gotten satellite connection  ( woot !!)  However i cannot seem to reset  my Default email address.  It keeps sending things to the old Dial-up address.

Would Anyone here know How to change that...or could refer me to someone who does ??   I've been here long enough to know some of the members here are super computer savvey !  Thank You for any help.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "it keeps sending things to the old Dial-up address"? Are you talking about when you try to send an email it is trying to send it via your old account on the dialup instead of via the new boardband account?

Also are you using POP3 or IMAP?

  I do know the dial-up setup was a POP3 .

I've been able to change the email setting on almost every account i have... such as Amazon, PayPal , here at the Cauldron..etc.   It's just whenever i reply to say a Craigslist ad... it will put my dial-up address as the From address.  I have even tried changing my account settings with CL... but it insists on using the dialup address.    i also tried to contact CL geeks about it... but have heard nothing back.

Thank You for taking some time to attempt to help me.  Technology is Still a whole nother world and language to me !

It sounds like your outgoing server information hasn't been changed. I don't use Windows Live Mail (I use Thunderbird), but that would be something I would look at. It may be that your outgoing server info hasn't picked up the new email address.

Good luck figuring it out! :cf:

It might be the old email address is the first listed on the selection so is seen as the default.  If you select the tools you should be able to see if you have the old and the new email address there.  Potential deleting the old one if it is no longer needed.  If you look under the accounts option you should see it listed there and see which is listed as the primary, I think Window Live still haas that feature.

I use OUtlook Express for the most part but it is a problem I encountered when I dropped my old dial up and went to a DSL connection.

Just a note but I've also discovered that if I respond to an email that came in under the old email usage it will automatically try to respond using that email address and not the new one.

This is common with almost all email software.

In Windows Live Mail...

Select the name of your account from the left-hand menu, then click on the 'Accounts' tab. Click on the 'Properties' button. If you do not have any accounts setup, click on the 'Email' button.

A dialog box should appear. On the General tab: Make sure that the email address listed under E-mail address is one that you use for your new broadband service.

Then click on the 'Servers' tab.You will need to set up the POP3 and SMTP servers as directed by your new broadband service.

Note that their are several versions of Windows Live Mail. This is from looking at the one that came with my PC.

Many Thanks.  You've given me something concrete to try.  I'll let You know how it goes...

Good luck. I'm not sure this is the problem, but it is the first thing I'd check.
