Ipsec trojan question
« on: January 23, 2012, 11:59:37 pm »
Running Avanquest Fix It Utilities v.12.0.32.19 on Win XP v.5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
Found that web browser was running slowly and search engines were being re-directed while security settings were being re-set to a low level
Ran a virus scan and came up with Trojan IPSEC at C:Windows\system32\drivers\ipsec.sys
Fix It failed to either quaranteen or fix the problem, so as per the suggestion of Avantquest's tech support, I re-did the scan in safe mode and deleted the infected file.
Now, I have no internet connection.
What can I do from here?

Do you have access to a working and non-infected copy of Windows XP SP 3?  If sio, you can copy ipsec.sys from it to C:Windows\system32\drivers\ on your current system.  You may need to do this is safe mode.

Yes, I believe I do.
My GF's laptop runs on XP, but I wanted to be sure it was going to be as simple as copy and paste the missing file before I made a mess trying

Is there a way to change the screen resolution in safe mode?
Mine goes to 640 so you can only see about a third of the screen
