Hey all,

I am trying to decide on an image-based site to upload pictures of my crafts, fanart and whatnot. I've already dismissed Pinterest because it won't let you look at things without logging in

I know of Instagram and Deviantart, but I'm not familiar with either platform (especially in the back end). So, does anyone have any pros/cons/other platform recs?

Some notes:
- I would mostly be uploading images from a PC, not directly from my phone camera.
- I want to be able to link to images from other sites, such as here or AO3.
- I would rather avoid any overly-obnoxious monetization.

I use imgur.

Embedding on other sites is easy, if you have an account then managing your albums, moving and replacing imaged, etc. is also super easy.

My personal preferences tend towards the user-supported rather than ad-supported sorts of sites for this kind of thing. Although I haven't personally used them, I've heard good things about Smugmug, starting with when a friend of mine went to work there -- they seem to be committed to being high-quality. (That does mean they may be a bit overpowered for your use, though.)

Also, if you're looking for simple hosting so you can embed things on other sites, rather than wanting something that provides albums, thumbnails, abilities for people to see all the photos and scroll through them, or that sort of thing, I've found that Google's "Cloud Storage" works quite well for that and is also much cheaper than the photo sites. What you get is basically a place that you can stick a file (a photo or anything else) and get a url to it. No frills, but also no issues with embedding things anywhere you want to. And you can even use your own domain name if you like.

Actually, having the pictures be public is part of what I was looking for. (I tried a Wordpress blog for a while, but that interface isn't really set up for picture sharing.)
