Quarantine karaoke on Discord
« on: March 28, 2020, 02:00:48 pm »
As some of you know, attending weekly karaoke and singing is part of my practice; unfortunately, it's not possible right now.

After some discussion on the Discord yesterday, I've decided to take a shot at hosting karaoke on the voice chat there. As an experiment, I'll be joining the voice chat on our Discord to host some singing twice today: once from 1pm-3pm Pacific (8pm-10pm GMT) and once from 5-7pm Pacific (8pm-10pm Eastern). Don't worry if you can't join; I only expect a few people this first time, as a test of the concept. After all, it's pretty short notice.

If everybody has fun, I'll see about making it a regular thing until offline karaoke comes back.

If you're curious about what to do: just look up your desired song as a karaoke track on Youtube (you won't be able to find everything, but there's a few good ones there), make sure you have some form of microphone, and fiddle with your sound settings until everything sounds nice. We'll go from there!

I'm a little late updating, but as it turns out, Cauldron Discord karaoke went pretty well! Of course there were technical mishaps, but that's just a hazard of digital communication.

I'm going to make an effort to host these sessions every Saturday at least until my karaoke bar reopens. As such, I invite any parties interested in attending to ask questions here if there's anything they're curious about. I can offer some technical advice as well as suggestions for how to incorporate the activity into spiritual practices.

I'll be posting again with more details about this coming Saturday's session in a couple of days.

Karaoke? You're playing my song!

Which do you prefer/require...live vocals to prerecorded music (possible sync issues), or record offline and upload?

We've been finding the karaoke tracks on Youtube, then streaming them in voice chat on Discord.

I'm about to make a post with some more information and clarifications, so hang in there for that.

I'll be posting again with more details about this coming Saturday's session in a couple of days.

So I may have dawdled a bit...

I'll be hosting karaoke for four hours total tomorrow: one session from 1-3pm PDT (9-11pm GMT) and one at 6-8 PDT (9-11 EDT). Barring unforeseen complications, this will be the time slots for the activity going forward, and there will be a loose theme (which you are free to observe or ignore in your choices) every week.

The first session is primarily intended for European participants, but it also serves the purpose of being a less ritualized version; this session is not formally dedicated to any gods and welcomes everyone regardless of affiliation.

The second session in the evening is intended to replace my weekly visits to the gay karaoke bar as devotional ritual to the immortal spirit of Freddie Mercury. As such, I will be specially dedicating this session, and those who prefer not to touch on the rituals of others at all may want to avoid it, although anyone who does feel comfortable attending (and thus lending their energy to the ritual) is welcome to do so.

This week's theme is hope. What inspires you in these dark times? Sing a song of faith and renewal. Or don't. I'm not your dad, sing what you want.

Can you live with it if I  perform the same numbers over again this week?

I may be late getting to the first session - prob not be round from 9 - 10 but hope to join as soon as I can.

Ah, but can you live with it?

I might be able to come up with some others, besides  :)

Apparently this week's actual theme was "let's overstrain our voices", "this has an excessive outro", and "technical difficulties". ;)

All the technical difficulties. :( (and if i'd remembered to read about the theme, i might have chosen different stuff. oh well. Next week, perhaps.)

So I may have dawdled a bit...

And again: it's been a few weeks since karaoke. But I'm going to try to host it again this weekend on Saturday.

Once more, there will be two sessions of two hours each: 1pm-3pm PDT (aka 9pm-11pm GMT) will be the first session, slightly less formal (not that any of this is very formal!) and not specially dedicated to any gods; 6pm-8pm PDT (aka 9pm-11pm EDT) will be the second session, officially dedicated as devotional to the immortal spirit of Freddie Mercury.

The theme this week is the stars and the heavens. What songs can you think of that sing of them?

You can sing other songs too, of course. Everyone is welcome!

My apologies for karaoke this week, I'm about to watch a film with my husband.
