My first shift.
« on: March 04, 2019, 05:57:10 pm »
So, my first shift is drawing to a close.

I'm sure I will get more comfortable with keeping Brighid's flame as time goes on. I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how best to keep the flame this week, and I ultimately decided to go with an actual flame in the form of a candle. Unfortunately, my local Catholic shop doesn't sell any Brighid candles; (the Saints who are commonly venerated in Mexico are what they carry; Celtic saints aren't popular around here). So, I burned a St. Michael candle; I'm sure Brighid won't object to sharing her flame with another power in that way, especially one from Catholicism.

In future I might come up with more elaborate ways of honoring Brighid as a Goddess, since that's primarily how I see her, but for now I think this is enough for my first shift.
"The worshippers of the gods go to them; to the manes go the ancestor-worshippers; to the Deities who preside over the elements go their worshippers; My devotees come to Me." ... "Whichever devotee desires to adore whatever such Deity with faith, in all such votaries I make that particular faith unshakable. Endowed with that faith, a votary performs the worship of that particular deity and obtains the fruits thereof, these being granted by Me alone." - Sri Krishna

I use a St. Cyprian candle (red, white and black), or a plain white candle.

It that just because of the colors, or do you see some link between Cyprian and Brighid?

Just the colors. I went to buy a candle with those three colors and the woman at the santería (sorry, no idea how these shops are called in English) told me it was a St Cyprian's candle.

I have no idea either, the only one in my town is run by Mexican immigrants, and most of the Catholics in my area are Spanish-speakers. I would like to know, though, as it would probably help me find more of them.

"Religious supply shop", though not very catchy, will actually get search results.
