New Board Feature - Quizzes
« on: June 15, 2017, 02:56:16 pm »
Our new SMF board has a number of features (most currently turned off) that our old vBulletin board did not have. At least some of these new features will be turned on as we finished testing them (to decide with they are at least somewhat worthwhile and do not overburden the server).  (Tapatalk users: Sorry but most of these features will not even appear on Tapatalk.) The first section feature is the  Member Map.

The Quiz feature can be found under the "Extras" menu in the top of the page menu area (the grayish bar the is always at the top of the screen). The "Quizzes" menu item takes to the Quiz area of our forum where you can play one of the over 500 quizzes that came with the system. These quizzes are timed. That is, one only has a few sections (generally 10-20 seconds) to answer each question. This is to limit one's ability to look up the answers to question via a search engine like Google.

Some previous versions of the board had quiz sections, but they did not come with many quizzes, so they were pretty much ignored. They depended on members to create quizzes for other members to take -- and creating quizzes is more work and less fun than taking quizzes, so there were seldom any quizzes to take. As there are over 500 quizzes here, I hope this area will get more use. Enjoy.

I have a few questions.
First, can members create quizzes?
Second, can these quizzes be used for surveys?

While we haven't enabled this yet (as we haven't had time to test it), the SMF Quiz system does allow members to create quizzes. The system really is not designed for surveys, as each question needs a "correct" answer when the quiz is created and the system does not provide any way to get the results other than the current top score in a quiz.

Would this also mean there's no way to use the quiz-maker to make fun little things like "What kind of dragon are you??" and whatnot? I find sharing those kind of results pretty fun.

The quiz system only handles quizzes where questions are independent of each other (that is, right or wrong) and the score is the percent answered correctly.  It does not handle a series of questions whose answers determine a result (like the type of quiz you describe).
