ADMIN: Tapatalk for Smartphones and Tablets
« on: February 18, 2014, 10:00:55 am »
Tapatalk is an app for iphones, ipads, android phones/tablets, and windows phone to allow pretty access to this forum from a "smart" mobile device. The Tapatalk app is free on some of these systems and paid on others. Tapatalk is semi-supported on The Cauldron: a Pagan Forum.

What does "semi-supported" mean?

First, it means the web version of this heavily-modified forum has priority. If some future version of Tapatalk breaks because of the large number of mods used on our forum, we will not turn off vBulletin mods to keep Tapatalk working. If you paid for a version of Tapatalk and we have to shut it off for some reason in the future, do not complain to us about how we wasted your money. No one is required to purchase Tapatalk as we have a mobile forum style (Lightweight) that should work on all mobile devices.

Second, while Tapatalk has an app for Android systems, for Apple IOS systems, and for Windows phones, the Hosts only have a Android tablet. Therefore, the board can really only provide "official support" for the Android version of the app. Apple and Windows Phone apps users are on their own and will have to depend on other users of their system (if any) for help.

If you have issues with the Tapatal app itself, please contact Tapatalk via their web site. If you have issues with using Tapatalk on this message board, please start a thread (using the Tapatalk prefix) in the Board Questions, Suggestions, and Feedback forum clearing stating your problem and which type of device you are using (Android, IOS, Windows Phone). Please be sure that you are using the latest version of the Tapatalk app for your device before requesting help.

Important Notes:

1) You are still required to obey ALL FORUM rules (especially our quoting rules) when using the Tapatalk interface. If the Tapatalk interface does not allow you to do something that our rules require, don't use the app. If you get moderated for a rules violation that Tapatalk "caused", saying "I was using Tapatalk and could not do/avoid doing X" will not get you off the hook.

2) The Talkatalk app ignores some of our forum mods -- meaning their features are only available from the web. Deal with it.

3) Tapatalk issues have a very low priority with the hosts. If such issues arise and they can be easily found and fixed, they will be -- eventually. If they cannot be easily found or easily fixed, chances are they will not be fixed.

4) Remember, Quoting is required on The Cauldron. In the standard web version of the forum, we make it very hard to avoid quoting. The Tapatalk app requires you to manually quote in your replies. To do so (at least on the Android version of the app), follow this procedure:

Instead of using the menu that pops up when you tap the phone's main menu button (or the quick reply area), tap the screen on the post you want to reply to.  That will  turn that post yellow and bring up a new menu.  That's where the quote  function is.  Tap "quote", which will take you to the same kind of  posting window as usual, with the linkback code and quoted text at the  top.  Then proceed the same way you would on a computer.

Just FYI: On my android phone, tapping the post I want to reply to turns the post blue, not yellow.
