I  mostly get "BUY BOOKS!" ads. :p

I get yarn ads.  That's fine on yarn sites, but starts getting creepy when I'm elsewhere on the 'net.

I mean, facebook routinely has yarn ads! just 'cause I'm friends with lots of knitters .........

That's 'cause you have cookie crumbs on you.  They know where you've been!

The ad for the Star Trek thing is right on this forum. You have to scroll down to see it. Of course if you can't see it then I think that it might be something that only non-donors can see. I don't know.

I just get the tiny 'shop here' ads for random seasonal decorations. ^^ But I don't see many ads pop up for me on this site, not compared to other forums or sites anyway.

The ads you get in your email are probably not connected to your presence on this forum by the way, they just tend to buy email lists from other companies and voila. Creepy right?

When I start getting ads that actually do seem to know me, I'll be a lot more creeped out. I don't want the ad services to know any more about me than they already do.

I always assumed that the ads here are like elsewhere:  connected to your Google searches (hence the apparently uncanny ability to offer you things you've recently searched for).

Yes, the ads here are (mostly) Google Adsense, which means they are connected to your Google searches -- at least if you stay signed in to your Google account while you surf this web and this site.
