Traditional Wicca: A Seeker's Guide by Thorn Mooney
« on: September 04, 2018, 08:27:40 am »
I'm excited for this book, I've enjoyed the author's YouTube channel for years, so I expect the book to be interesting. It's an unusual topic, especially for Llewellyn, who publishes most of the books that describe Wicca as a personal system tailored to individual taste. It's nice to get the perspective of a traditionalist in a modern, mainstream pagan book for a change, and to get some insight on that.

The copy I ordered came in the other day and I've just started reading it. It's not a large book, and it is a pretty easy read, but the author knows her stuff and has a good sense of humour, so it's been enjoyable so far.

It's a really great book - as soon as I finished, it went to "Right, now have a required reading thing for Seekers" because it hits a whole set of things that I discuss as part of that process, but where Thorn gives great examples or explains things well.

(To add some context for other people reading: it's a book focused for people looking at initiatory group work in particular. Much of it is applicable to forms of initiatory witchcraft that aren't Wicca, too, though obviously some of the details will differ. Thorn, the author, is Gardnerian, but she also has experience in other kinds of group witchcraft work, and in the larger community as a whole, and she threads between different kinds of experience and practice really thoughtfully.)

I like Thorn's writing style on her blogs. She comes off as very real, with a good sense of humour.

I've read it as well, and haven't read a how to, or seekers book in a good while. It was a very pleasant read, and a good gem that amazes us in how one of its kind hasn't been tackled up to now. It's like a fresh twist of many old recomendations rolled into one, and a definite must read for any seeker imo.
