Starter books on Norse/Heathen/Asatru
« on: July 07, 2012, 10:27:34 am »
I'm looking for explorer-friendly books and resources on Norse mythology, Heathen and/or Asatru religious material.

If a thread on this has already been done, I apologize but would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

E-books and online resources would be most convenient. Thanks!

Add a dash of folklore, a few centuries of farmer\'s blood and mix well.

Temple of Our Heathen Gods has a large online library as does Northvegr.

Our Troth is also online and is one of my favorite introductory books.

The pace of progress in artificial intelligence (I’m not referring to narrow AI) is incredibly fast. [...] The risk of something seriously dangerous happening is in the five year timeframe. 10 years at most.--Elon Musk

I am in the camp that is concerned about super intelligence," [Bill] Gates wrote. "First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well. A few decades after that though the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern. I agree with Elon Musk and some others on this and don\'t understand why some people are not concerned."

My 101 book was Diana Paxson's Essential Asatru: Walking the Path of Norse Paganism. It's a good introduction to liberal-to-moderate Asatru. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be in ebook format.

I also like Galina Krasskova's Exploring the Northern Tradition but with a caveat that the author is quite controversial in Heathen circles, so tread carefully. I say read all you can and make up your own mind.

Thanks, I'll see if I can get those... or go sit in the bookstore for a while and read them :D
