Pagan Periodicals

I subscribe to ADF's Oak Leaves ($20/year for members & $25/year for non-members) but since it is a quarterly publication (and I am working my way through the archived PDFs of back issues) I am curious as to A. What other publications are out there and B. Any reviews or opinions regarding them.

Any takers?

I can't afford to subscribe, but I occasionally pick up Pentacle at the bookstore and I trawl the internet for ezine archives. I like Ashe Journal, and my stepmother has shared her archive of articles from Goddess Alive, PanGaia and Sage Woman (all defunct now, as far as I know). I wish Ashe would start putting up the pdfs for free download again.

Sage Woman is still active, and PanGaia merged with New Witch to become Witches & Pagans. You can find subscription info for both Sage Woman and Witches & Pagans at the publisher site: http://www.bbimedia.com/, and they've been digitizing back titles, so you can get them as a PDF.

Thanks. :) I still can't afford them, but it's good to know that at least there will be more free samples along the way.

You being you, I bet you'd like The Pomegranate.  It only comes out twice a year, but the meatiness of its substance kind of makes up for that.

If you're looking for something with more of a community bent, I'll second Jennett's recommendation for Witches & Pagans. (I used to subscribe to NewWitch until the merger to make Witches & Pagans; I didn't renew because the new magazine included more and more short stories & poems, when what I wanted were informational articles and in-depth reviews.)

(I also had the odd experience of finding out in my third year of university that a friend had written to NewWitch & had her letter published.. and that I read the letter two years before I met her. :o )

If you're looking for something more scholarly, Pomegranate is a twice-yearly, peer-reviewed academic journal. I've never managed to get my hands on it, but it's consistently got big names and interesting abstracts.

http://hexmagazine.com/

I have had the pleasure of reading some of the early work on this publication and while not the best out there it does have interesting tid bits sprinkled throughout it.

And because I can't stop digging, here is a directory to even more titles. It's rather out of date, and some zines have folded, but there's still a lot to be found.

Highlight: Sacred Hoop offers sold-out issues as free pdf downloads.

Unfortunately, the link no longer works. Even more unfortunately, Sacred Hoop PDFs are no longer free. (I guess they sold better than the print edition...) A pity for those of us short on cash, because it's a great read.

I don't want to self-promote, but at http://www.littlewitchmagazine.com, you can read our quarterly Neo-Pagan magazine for free? Mostly a Neo-Wiccan focus but some druidry, shamanism, witchcraft and other overarching Pagan things in there as well. New issue: 21 september, seven back issues to read.

BTW, how far back do the archives go?
