Ahhhh! That's so awesome. *saves article for reference when building dream house*

And only a few folks would recognize the huge Pacific madrone (Arbutus menziesii) tree in the front yard that only grows in the maritime Pacific Northwest.  Not very New Englandy, but (I think, anyway) decidedly witchy.

Just FYI:  it's completely different from the book.  Like, dramatically.

Well, let's hope it is still good. Loved that movie. Can't wait to read it. :)

My whole post assumes that the OP wants the books for her kids and that they are aged 12-15ish.

Oh my goodness, I didn't know there was a novel. I need it.

And I'm pretty sure Circle of Three was a decent series, but I haven't read it since I was somewhere in the 10-12 range, so I wasn't reading critically for realistic pagan-ness.

ETA: Practical Magic's movie version has a blood pact, ("My blood, your blood, our blood"), so if your kids enjoy it I'd remind them why that is a dangerous thing to do. I remember that when I was 13, I thought that would be awesome.

Also, xxxHolic is a japanese graphic novel that is heavily based in japanese mythology with some shinto elements, and about friendship, growing, etc.

A pagan friend of mine recommended me xxxHolic and another graphic novel called Gasoline. I want to read them, but the first gives the implication of porn and I find porn boring. I have nothing against it, it's just kind of boring. I'll give it a shot anyway, but I'm not going into it expecting much. lol

Although not a children's book, the main characters in Chocolat by Joanne Harris also come across as somewhat Pagan, although as far as I remember it's never specifically stated they are Pagan. The novel is about a family, consisting of a mother and daughter, who open up a chocolate shop in a conservative French village and clash with some of the locals, while enchanting others with delicious chocolate.

I did not know that Chocolat was a book! I love love that movie. I will definitely be reading that.

Does anyone know of novels about Pagan families? To be specific, I am looking for coming-of-age novels that happen to be about Pagan families and/or children.

So does anyone know of a book along the lines I've stated?

Thank you for giving me an opportunity for some shameless self promotion! :D:

Dark Moon Gates (see my avatar) is the story of Willa, a high school Junior who is being raised in a Wiccan household and by her mom's coven. Now faeries have infiltrated her school, trying to identify her baby brother so that they can sacrifice him at the Beltaine Dark Moon. If they manage to do so, the Gates between faery and the human world will be sundered forever.

My book includes several instances of rituals and spell casting, as well as a pagan VP. Despite the faeries running around, I've tried to keep the magick in the story as realistic as possible.

You can find it at Smashwords or Amazon.

It's great, actually.  No hocus pocus or New Agey stuff, but plenty of magical goodness all the same.

Yes, the book is surprisingly little known. There also are two sequels, The Lollipop Shoes, which is quite good as well, and Peaches for Monsieur le Curé, which I haven't got around to reading yet.

I ask because I've read many that happen to be about Christian families, Jewish, Muslim, even Atheists, but I've never read one about a family that happens to be of pagan faith. I don't mean it to be a major part of the story, but simply for it to be a background thing, a character element. I've read many times "after we came home from church," or "After Billy finished his Quran reading," "When she got home she unwrapped the scarf around her head" "After dad thanked Jesus for dinner".

But never once have I read "After thanking Old Horny" or "As I prayed to the Triple Goddess, I thought" or "The pyre for Thor was great, then we", "she took the pentacle necklace off before getting in the bath," Anyway, I think I've made my point. Same with many Asian religions as well, by the way, but I won't get into that for now.

So does anyone know of a book along the lines I've stated?

S. M. Stirling' s Emberverse series has a main character/faction that are Wiccans.  It's basically what the show, "Revolution," wishes it could be.

There is a fantasy/steampunk series by Devon Monk.  Think it's Hearts of Iron or something like that.

I would definitely recommend Stirling' s series.

Another series of books is the Sweep Series or the Wicca series, it's about a teenage witch from ireland and we learn through the small books (15 in total) about her family, practices etc, it's a mix of actual pagan and wiccan practices and fiction, I think it's worth a try :)

Well, I have to recommend "Wise Child" By Monica Furlong. It's about a girl in a remote Cornish(?) village, whose mother ran off, and whose father is at sea. When her grandmother dies, the girl is taken in by the village healer. Everyone suspects the healer is really a witch (she is, actually, the pagan kind.) but she teaches the girl to step away from dogma to look at life and nature and deity in a very different way. Back when I was a little Christian kid, this was the book that introduced me to paganism. The witch, Juniper, even goes over things like herbalism and casting a basic circle, all within the deeper theological stuff. It's definitely a coming of age novel, but it can appeal to several age-groups.

Somehow, I've missed reading Chocolat, but did just finish The Lollipop Shoes (and loved it).

If anyone is looking for the sequels in the US, they were released under different titles: The Girl with No Shadow and Peaches for Father Frances.

I don't know any specific titles or authors but you should look on Wattpad. It's a writing community. It is full of beginning and experienced authors who write stories and post them on Wattpad. It's free. I've made friends on there and read some amazing books. There are search options to put in key words. I've found tons when you put in a single word like witch, pagan, Magick, etc. You can make an account and save them to your library. You can read them as you want and it saves your reading spot. There is not a limit to how many books are in your library and you can also follow authors. It is accessible by computer on http://www.wattpad.com and they also have a fully functional app in iTunes and Google play store,  I have never used a blackberry or Windows phone but I'm assuming they have it there too. They've been around for a while. I actually have an unfinished book on there. It will have pagan ideas and things too but it is a fantasy novel. However I'm disillusioned with it at the moment. There's also poetry. Some authors are quite obviously beginners or young, but tons of people have been published from there. One of my friends wrote a series that involved tons of deities, but it's still a fantasy novel. They've been pulled though for publication. She has other books still on there though. Her name is Abi Kirk. I think it's together if you search by name AbiKirk. Good luck!

I can't believe nobody mentioned Furlong yet (especially me).  The prequel, Juniper, and sequel Colman are great too.
