Living Theurgy
« on: April 13, 2016, 01:16:53 pm »
I am reading Living Theurgy by Jeffrey S. Kupperman (Avalonia, London, 2014, ISBN 978-1-905297-71-9) for the moment, and I am very enthusiastic. This is the very book Graeco-Roman Pagans need in order to revive the theurgical dimension of Late Imperial religion. It is also wide enough in its examples, to give Christian readers some guidance to how to explore half-forgotten and half-neglected aspects of their own religion, so the scope isn't sectarianly narrow. For those not interested in philosophy and meditation, it would not have any appeal.

OK, I'm intrigued.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs
