* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Yet he is still one of the recognized experts on many things dealing with ancient Egypt.  Most places still recommend his translations of the Book of the Dead over many newer ones.

Not so much from my understanding.  In a lot of circles he's now considered laughable and prone to a lot of bad translations in his writing.

I'm curious as to why you'd place Budge on this list to stay away from.  Granted he is some what old as most of his stuff is quite a few years out of date.  Yet he is still one of the recognized experts on many things dealing with ancient Egypt.  Most places still recommend his translations of the Book of the Dead over many newer ones.

Budge's translations are considered a joke now a days. The way he treats the content isn't great, and he seems to like to infuse a lot of his findings with outdated ideas and concepts. Sure, you could read Budge. You could even read Breasted. They both played a heavy role in developing Egyptology. However, one has to understand that their information isn't up to date and they could be presenting ideas that have been disproven since the books were written. Personally, I find Budge a waste of time, regardless of what he brought to the field.

Tks, it's been a number of years since I really researched into anything dealing with Egypt (in general) and at that time Budge was the prime referenced material.

Bolded mine.  That was always one of the issues I had with many of the referenced works for Egyptian things.  It caused quite a rucuss with Bast with the false translation of Paschet in more than one item I read.

Tks for the reply though as I had not really researched anything dealing with Egyptology outside of Bast and Pahket in a number of years.

I'll add here that Pinch's Egyptian Mythology is excellent, and if you're interested in translations Faulkner's are greatly superior to Budge.
