Book recommendation about Brigid?
« on: April 08, 2018, 02:40:52 pm »
Hi dear Cauldronites,

I desperately need a birthday present for a friend. She loves Brigid and I've investigated which books she already has:

- Judy Harrow: Devoted to You
- Seán ó Duinn: The Rites of Brigid

Can anyone recommend an additional book?

My friend is neo druid, I think she would read historical accurate stuff as well as stuff from an UPG perspective or with practical stuff in it...

Does anyone have an idea what would be a good supplement to the books she already has?

From a more academic/devotional point of view, I'd suggest Brigid: Meeting the Celtic Goddess of Poetry, Forge, and Healing Well by Morgan Daimler. Another that provides a good devotional basis would be Tending Brigid's Flame: Awaken to the Celtic Goddess of Hearth, Temple, and Forge by Lunea Weatherstone.

Wow, that's a good reading list, the commentary is really useful.

Actually I'm thinking about the children's book "Brigid’s Cloak" by Bryce Milligan...because that's something she doesn't have and it looks so beautiful  ;D

I'm glad it's helpful!

I don't have the children's book. If you do get it for your friend, please let me know what you think.

I will, I've already ordered it. :) (I'm glad the paperback was easily available here, the hard cover is a different story.)

I also saw that there's a Brighid devotional book from TC -> something for my reading list.  :D

You might also be interested in Clann Bhride's Book of Hours, which is available as a free pdf download (https://clannbhride.wordpress.com/theology/about/), as well as some of the essays and other materials on the website.

In addition, we have a pretty active Facebook group:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/clannbhride/

Thanks, that's great! I'll check it out later... :)

The children's book "Brigid’s Cloak" by Bryce Milligan has arrived. It's the Christian story with Brigid meeting Maria and Joseph. It's very beautifully illustrated and has wonderful imagery, f.ex. there's a druid giving Brigid a blue cloak when she was born, but the stars come later... It's really adorable (although with a Christian emphasis), but a book worth having! (And the donkey is cute.)

Thanks for the review! Sounds like one to add to my bookshelf.
