Audio Resources (e.g., podcasts, etc)?
« on: August 19, 2013, 10:52:15 pm »
Hi all,

I am a huge fan of audiobooks, radio, and podcasts. I love being able to listen to stories, lectures, and discussions while doing other mundane chores like dishes. It is entertaining, and a great way to learn!

Does anyone have any recommendations for pagan themed podcasts, audio material, online pagan radio stations, etc?

I'd be leaning towards something that involves discussions or informational material, and right now, I don't have a strong preference for or against specific paths as long as the material is general enough. For instance, a series of podcasts on the intricacies of divination using runes would be too specific, but I'd find a general podcast on issues in Asatru interesting even though I don't necessarily think that is the path I'd end up pursuing.

If you have any suggestions, please do share! Thanks!

There's a big mix of Pagan podcasts out there. Some are very good. Some are terrible. A few that I recommend: Druidcast (hosted by singer and OBOD druid Damh the Bard) is about revival druidry, and is generally lovely, with lots of stories, songs and the occasional more academic lecture. T Thorn Coyle's 'Elemental Castings' is full of interviews with really fascinating people, and as a side effect, that will introduce you to lots of interesting paths. As the title suggests, 'New World Witchery' is about magic and witchcraft in the new world, and it's absolutely fascinating. 'Standing Stone and Garden Gate' is very informative, and they have a big archive, although they seem to have stopped podcasting for the moment. I quite enjoy 'The Infinite and the Beyond', which leans more towards ceremonial magic, although it's quite eclectic. And if you're interested in folk magic, there are two very good podcasts about hoodoo and rootwork (African-American folk magic) that I enjoy a lot: Lamplighter Blues, and the Lucky Mojo podcast.

Self-promotion moment: I have a podcast called Divine Community. It's about religion and society, mostly from a Pagan perspective, rather than about any particular paths. But we've interviewed people from various paths about their religion and how it intersects with the rest of their lives/society in general - including HeartShadow and veggiewolf from this forum, who talked about FlameKeeping.

I'll go ahead and add Circle Craft with Selena Fox. She covers a variety of topics, I see some I want to listen to now.

Naomi mentioned a lot of other good ones.

And I'll add the link for Divine Community. ;)

Thanks!

Thanks all! I remember looking once for podcasts in the religious section of iTunes and really didn't find anything - and I was quite wary of the fact that not all podcasts are made equal. I really appreciate all of you sharing these recommendations!

I listened to few of the Celtic Myths podcasts (fascinating!) and just now I'm listening to the Divine Community interview about Flamekeeping while I do some dishes... it's actually quite spot on with what I am trying to work on in life right now. (Both types of flamework - I feel a bit of a waxless wick right now! :/)

Thanks again!
