Should We Have a Classifieds Ads Area?
« on: September 21, 2011, 04:54:36 pm »
There's a classified ads mod for vbulletin that seems fairly nice. It includes "For Sale" ads, "Wanted" ads, and Auctions. It apparently has a few bugs but is supported. It isn't ebay or the like but it integrates fairly well into vBulletin. It's also free.

Ads would be limited to a few per member. Bronze, Silver, and Gold Donors would be able to have more ads active at one time.

This mod has been installed on our test board so I can play with it. You can read a bit about it here: Mary's Classifieds (MOTM Aug 2011)

Is there any interest in this?

I have some hope of getting a small pagan-oriented business started up sometime in the next few years, so in theory I'm interested; in practice, this appears to be geared to individual specific items rather than more general advertising the existence of a business.

Am I reading the summary of what the mod does wrong?

Not really. It's a way for members to sell/offer things to other members as opposed to some type of feature where people could set up businesses. Of course, there would be nothing to prevent people running businesses from selling select items here as a why of advertising their business.  There's also some type of "store" feature, although I haven't figured that out yet. No docs to speak of, of course.

Indeed.  I can see ways of making it work for what I would like to be doing with my business, certainly; I'm probably not going to have use for it soon, but if it did exist when I get my act together I would certainly use it.

I'd say so. It would be a great way for the artists on the board to streamline accepting/completing commissions for one.

There we go. That's what I was going to mention (of course!).  So, I say yes to an ad board.

It seems like it would be a good idea.
