Serbian flag
« on: April 06, 2015, 03:30:43 am »
Hello there, I just wanted to mention that current Serbian flag used on forum is not the one we use. This is Serbian flag:

So, if you ever feel need to change it, it would be nice. We are no longer Yugoslavia :P

As is mentioned in this related thread (which I suspect you've already read), the base flagset we use is extremely old, but for various reasons nevertheless preferable to the alternative.

The image you provide is in the format we require and appears to be the right size, so there's a good chance you'll get your wish (just 'good chance'; I can't guarantee it because I'm not the one who'd do it), though it might take some time before it's implemented.

I've replaced it with the flag image you provided. Thank you very much for providing it (and in the size/file format required). As noted elsewhere, the flag mod hasn't been updated since around 2005 by the long missing mod author, so any changes made in the last ten years or so aren't going to be there.

You may need to clear your browser cache before the new flag will appear on your messages.

Thank you, sir or madam. Yes, I am aware of the cache. And for the format and size, it was coincidence.

Fyi, if you're not on tapatalk, there's a gender pronoun field under people's name, almost everyone has something there.

I see only titles depending of post count, there is no gender. At least for me, and yes, I am using PC.

It's not right under the username, it's below the avatar, in the same section as the country flag, religion, and other info.

That bit, though, only indicates what pronouns someone prefers to have used for them; it doesn't specify gender or preferred honorific. Many people will have more info about their gender in their profiles, but you don't see that unless you go to their profile. And I'm not sure if anyone has info about preferred honorifics in their profiles - I don't, because although I am neither a 'sir' nor a 'madam' (for several reasons, not all of which have to do with my gender), I've never encountered an alternative that I care for.

So while the pronoun section would have let you know to use 'sir' rather than 'madam' for Randall, it wouldn't have been helpful to you in figuring out how to address me.

In general, it's best to use the person's username, rather than an honorific (and to use 'they' if you're using a third-person pronoun and aren't sure of the person's preference - f'ex, if you've already hit the 'reply' button before you realize you'll be using a pronoun).

However, it's only visible if the person whose post you are looking at has put something in the field. If they have not, the field does not appear in their posts.

Short answer is: I don't live in a country where English language is spoken and that's why you may see me writing something wrong. And for the calling (if I can say that, but most likely can't) , I will use Username to refer. I didn't notice gender here just because I see this: he his, or whatever, and it's not common thing on any forum. And I visited lots of forums. But I am not saying anything but, just I am not used to this way of knowing gender or how someone loves to be called. =)

Don't worry about this. Some people on this forum get upset over gender references being wrong, others don't. Personally, I don't care. You (in general, not just you personally) don't know me. You can't see me. So I'm not going to get upset that you don't know my gender is "male." My world will not end because someone refers to be as "him or her" or even "her" on a message board.  Not only will my world not end, but I may not even notice the mistaken pronoun reference.
