I've noticed that when I mark the group I'm in as read, it stops redirecting me back to the group's main page. When I click refresh, it just stops when it gets to a blank page.

It's a bug that only happens "once in a while". There is no real solution, although erasing the last parameter from the address in the address bar and refreshing the page will get you where you want to be.
