2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 16 Sept 2019: $660 donated. $10 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Chrome Browser: Mark Group as Read (and other issues)
« on: July 05, 2011, 12:57:05 pm »
[RandallS adds: I'm turning this into a general "Issues with Chrome Browser" thread. Chrome seems to have (for some people) login issues, the issue Juni describes here, and others. This thread is an attempt to figure out what is going on. If you have a Chrome issue, please describe it as well as give exact info about your browser version and what addons you have installed. Thanks.]

I don't know if this is a Chrome glitch or what (I'm using the most up to date version) but when I go into a social group and mark the messages as read, I get a blank screen. Reloading simply gives me more white screen. It does successfully mark the group's messages as read, when I check in a different window.

Does it haoppen it other browsers? I'm getting the impression that Chrome has issues with with vBulletin.

The only other browser I have is Firefox, which timed out during both attempts. (Firefox really hates my comp, though.)

I just tried it with Google Chrome version "13.0.782.41 beta-m" Adblock Plus installed but http://www.ecauldron.com whitelisted (so I see the site as a normal person does). I signed in as testuser. I went to groups. I joined "Crafter's Den" (the only group I found that i could join directly without approval). I went to its homepage and used the Mark group read from the drop down. It seemed to work fine. No blank pages. No white screen.

Chrome Extentions Installed:
Adblock Plus for Google Chrome™ (Beta) - Version: 1.1.3
LastPass - Version: 1.73.2
Xmarks Bookmark Sync - Version: 1.0.15

As I said, http://www.ecauldron.com is whitelisted in Adblock Plus.

Let's not give up so fast.  What version of Chrome are you using? What extensions do you have installed?

Are you using an Ad block extension?  If so, the first thing I'd do is turn it off and see if the problems go away. Adblock is not nearly as easy to do on Chrome as it is on Firefox or even IE so it tends to interfere more with browsing.

I'm using Chrome 12.0.742.112, and it says it's up to date. Extensions...I have Daily Links, a Google PDF viewer, a Nielsen extension which doesn't have a link, and a Google RSS thing. I don't use any ad blockers.

I'm using the next major version of the browser. That might be a reason.

What does the "Nielsen extension" do?

I've made this thread a bit more general in the hope of collecting all the Chrome problems in one thread.

I signed up with a Nielsen survey- it watches what sites I go to and gives me points.

Hm- when I load the version it says it's up to date and doesn't offer a way to upgrade to your version?

You might try disabling that (and perhaps all your addons) and see if the problem still exists. If it doesn't still exist you can enable addons one by one until you see what addon or combination of addons causes the issue. (Assuming that addons are the issue, of course).

You do have the latest version -- you have the latest version of the STABLE channel of Chrome.  I'm using the lastest version of the BETA channel of Chrome. There's also an even more unstable version than beta available, the Dev channel version of Chrome.  This page talks about them: http://googlechromereleases.blogspot.com/

Also, I'm using Windows 7 (64-bit) which can make a difference as well.  The wide variety of browsers, operating systems, and browser extensions make it almost impossible to prevent issues like you and others are having.
