Can't edit my post or make new post in a thread

I accidentally messed up the quote code text in a post I made, and when I tried to edit it, I got an error that my message was too short. So then I tried to make another post to apologize for my mistake, and it also said my message was too short. Is this an error, or am I being banned? I know about the rule, but it was only my second post here, and it was a careless mistake that I realized only after hitting submit, and I'm really sorry about it and it won't happen again.

Sounds like a glitch, I think the minimum message size is four letter or some such.

Sounds like a glitch to me, too.  We don't inflict punishment upon people without telling them what we're doing and why, and we rarely actually ban anyone (except spammers).  For a first offense on quoting or editing, we probably wouldn't even formally warn you--you'd just get a polite reminder of our policies that doesn't count against you or anything.  So, no worries, you're fine, and we'll try to figure out why it happened and see if we can't address whatever glitch it is.

Your quote is fixed.  I dunno what, if anything, it might have had to do with the glitch when you tried to edit, but I can tell you what you did to the quote code.

When you remove all quoted text and just leave the trackback (which is completely fine!), you need to make sure that the opening code and the closing code are on different lines, or it won't show up at all.  That just means that after you've deleted the text, you need to hit "enter" to put in a line break.

You have to enter at least four letter in a message to be able to post it. Letters in BBCode or that you quote from another message do not count.

As Sunflower said, if you want to delete everything within the quote tags you can, but then you need to be sure the opening quote BBCode is on a different line from the closing quote BBCode.  And you'll still need to write at least four letters in your reply -- or the message will be rejected as too short.
