2017 Donation Drive -- Please Help Keep TC Online

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise just over $850 to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 24 November: Only $75 more (after Paypal fees) needed to reach our goal! Please donate if you can.

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Is your avatar too large for our Avatar Guidelines? Or perhaps you'd like a custom avatar or need some other assistance to make your avatar just right? Post in this thread and one of our member artists may be able to help you.

Oh this is great...how, in fact do I change my avatar??

Go to Settings (in the menu at very top right).  Then select the "Edit Avatar" option.

Your image appears to be 100x100 and about 2400 bytes. It fits our rules as is. You can upload it in Settings / Edit Avatar.

I have the same problem with resizing.   If anyone can help me upload my avatar, I'd be grateful!

Your image doesn't seem to have attached. What format is it? Jpeg, gif or png usually behave better than others.

If you need to resize or crop it, this is a reliable editor: http://www.online-image-editor.com/

Does anyone have any suggestions on alternatives to Photobucket? I've used them for years to stash images for free that get picked up in this forum for my avatar and signature--not to mention my Wiki contributions on sacred geometry, where seeing the images is crucial--but suddenly they have a policy of "no third party hosting" without ponying up bucks to upgrade one's account, which I'm not at all interested in doing.

Suggestions are welcome!
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

Photobucket wants $9.95 per month just to share pictures. For $3.95 a month (if you pay in advance) you can get a no-frills hosting account from IX Web Hosting that will let you store an essentially unlimited amount of data plus a domain name registration for your own web site. I've been using them for over ten years and I'm quite satisfied.

Thanks for the info, by the way; I've just canceled my own Photobucket account and I'm moving my own avatars and such to my own server.

Edited to Add Link.

Well that sucks... Is there no end to capitalism?
And I would like to know of a free service too since being Dutch and not using a creditcard is rather limiting me.

This discussion thread from Metafilter talks about the image hosting landscape (Several people recommend http://nearlyfreespeech.net as a very very cheap solution, but also talks about some of the other options out there and if they're sustainable.)

Thanks, Jenett, and everyone else. I'll investigate.

What's particularly annoying is that every time I go to Photobucket, I get inundated with a flurry of pop-up ads, so their "free" service should have been more than paid for with the ad revenue they got. I certainly paid for it in the inconvenience of putting up with the ads.

I'll note that for quite some time now (I think starting with the move to vB, but our current SMF supports this, too), avatars on TC could be directly uploaded, and didn't require a third-party host. AFAIK, that's not possible for signature pics, so it only solves part of your problem, but it should solve that part.

Thanks, Sunflower! I was clueless about that. Now I'm slightly less clueless.
