The leader of my brother Grimnir, and my Asatru Warrior Coven tells us to pray often to the gods but never to forget to offer some mead in payment or something bad might happen.

In my view, the gods are not generally vindictive for no reason, and certainly not over something as trivial as not getting enough mead. A common heathen tenet is "a gift for a gift." There's no attitude of "give me gifts or I will smite thee rawr!"

Quote
3. You should pray because it lets the Gods know that you are still Tru and thinking of them and thankful for their signs and omens.

As was pointed out early in this thread, it seems it was much more common for people to pray to their ancestors and local wights. The gods aren't as concerned with individuals so, generally speaking but not always, such signs and omens are likely not from them.

Quote
4. When I pray, I take out my rune marking kit (facepaint), mark whichever rune I feel to be appropriate on my forehead and then raise my arms in the Elhaz runic position. This is important for it opens up your energies and your hweols.

Interesting. Do you have any sources about this face painting?

Dare I ask what you mean by hweols? I did an internet search and nothing came up.

This is an interesting and good topic. I do not believe that people of the Frith pray nearly as much as they should. The leader of my brother Grimnir, and my Asatru Warrior Coven tells us to pray often to the gods but never to forget to offer some mead in payment or something bad might happen.

Uh, wow man. I'm just... yeah.

Okay, at the risk of sounding like a Big Old Meanie Doodoo Head (tm), are you sure you found the right folder, here? What I've seen of your posts really, REALLY doesn't sound very 'asatruish'. More like a buncha Wicca-tru new-agey stuff. Which is fine, but if you're not actually partaking in what is considered to be Asatru, perhaps you should call it what it is to avoid confusion.

No offense intended.

"This is a reconstruction-based discussion area. Though we embrace Unconfirmed Personal Gnosis (UPG) and non-primary or non-scholastic secondary sources, they are not given the same weight as primary source material or scholastic secondary material. If you are using UPG or questionable modern sources, state that up front in your posts."

I do not believe it is UPG as you call it, but the true words of the Gods. I would be happy to state 'This is what I believe to be the true word of the Gods' before all my posts if you would like?

Trolls be trollin'.
The pace of progress in artificial intelligence (I’m not referring to narrow AI) is incredibly fast. [...] The risk of something seriously dangerous happening is in the five year timeframe. 10 years at most.--Elon Musk

I am in the camp that is concerned about super intelligence," [Bill] Gates wrote. "First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well. A few decades after that though the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern. I agree with Elon Musk and some others on this and don\'t understand why some people are not concerned."

Alright. From the start:

Many here from this SIG are reconstructionists. We try to reconstruct the heathen worldview and religion using the primary soruces and secondary, academic soruces. When we can not back what we say up with historic evidence we call it UPG...

We can not look inside your head to confirm that your ways of doing things are indeed "the true words of the Gods", therefore we ask you to discuss/share on our terms (the terms of this SIG) and call your "true words of the Gods" UPG.

Really now.

Well, when Old One-Eye shows up and tells me you get to put words in his mouth, then I will believe you.

Until then, you are claiming you get to speak for my gods. An act which is pretty much guaranteed to piss me and most other heathens right the hell off. Additionally, you are using modern invention and claiming that the gods 'told you so'.

You are not an Asatruar. I am not sure what you are, aside from looking like a modern neo-pagan with northern flavorings added. Which, again, is fine. Just call it what it is, not what it isn't.

*** MOD HAT ON ***
That is either an personal attack, an attempt to mod, or both. Both are against the rules as you well know. The fact that someone does not believe as you do (and may really be in the wrong folder -- as his beliefs do sound more like some form of Wiccatru than Asatru) does not exempt you from the rules. Other people have managed to respond without going over the line, so there is reason you cannot.

Thanks Bob... I damn near snorted coffee out my nose on that one. :p

To Wildwind: Bob and hlewagastir have explained how those of us in this SIG approach our worldview and UPG much better than I can. If One Eye does speak to you great, but I would watch out for the backlash. He is known for disposing of those he once favored.
"Bug f*ck nuts" should NOT be the answer when one questions their own sanity.:rolleye::

Generally speaking, we aren't really into what any one person "believes" here. And we certainly aren't into "the true words of the Gods." We are into using historical sources to reconstruct the past religions of Northern Europe.

If that's what it takes, sure, go for it. Realize you will be questioned about your sources, and people will challenge you. In fact, this has already occurred although you have yet to respond to any call for sources or credibility.
