Blessing Our Well
« on: July 29, 2017, 05:49:44 am »
When my wife and I were looking for a house we made a list of things we wanted. One of those things was good tasting living water (water that comes straight from the earth without processing or chemicals added).

We got it: it’s delicious.

Many times in the last few months I have had moments of deep appreciation for it. It just never dawned on me to bless our Well.

It wasn’t until yesterday when our pump stopped working that my attention was fully directed to it. We called a well specialist and he showed us how to prime our pump. According to him we were using too many things at once and it lowered the PSI to a point where air was introduced into the system.

Being out of water for a day was an eye opener. As my wife and I were digging a shitter in the back I had two thoughts: one, it would really suck to be out of water and have to take a crap in the city, and two, I have not blessed our Well. So we blessed it.

The following is a basic layout of our Well Blessing:

We honored the local wights with offerings and thanks.
I placed a small amount of sea salt and a piece of a Leek into the Well and then hailed Thor, touching his Hammer to the pump, we asked that our Well be hallowed, purified, and protected from contaminants and unwanted energies.
We hailed Urðr, Verðandi, and Skuld, asking them to bless our Well so that its waters bestow upon us knowledge and understanding of our Wyrd while extending our lives with its healing properties.
We hailed Eikþyrnir, asking that our Well might never run dry; that the distilled drops from his horns might forever drip into its depths.
And we hailed Mímir, asking that his intelligence and wisdom be infused within us as we drink the Well’s Waters.

Having blessed the Well we filled a horn with water and offered it the Wights, Gods, and Goddesses before drinking ourselves.

As a side note, I debated about connecting with Laga, as she’s purported to be a goddess connected with wells and springs, but I have not found any reference to her other than a few online encyclopedias, and none of them offer source material.

Don't know about Laga but Holle is associated with wells and lakes. She is more Germanic than Norse but she is an open, willing and gracious goddess. Geese, apples, elderberries, cranes are all associated with her. Sickles as a well.
