I think you did a marvelous job!  The other details, besides the owls...  you captured the wood so nicely.  And the owls!  Oh my, they're lovely!  So expressive!

During Winter Solstice I got a very strong urge to pick up paper, pencils and paints, and start painting owls. Not just any old owl, but a certain species of owl. While I do teach art, my own media is music, clay and photography and my general feeling is simply: I can't really draw, let alone paint. :p With understandable feelings of nervousness, I gave in to the urge and started working.

Owls 1 & 2 were done with dry pastels, 3 with markers. I'm not putting up pics, because these didn't turn out satisfactory (and I didn't get that good pics of them), although nr.2 got an approving "getting there!" feel.

Not that bad for first ever paintings with acrylics (I've colored with them a few years ago), especially given my troubles with drawing. :) The background of both of these is done with watercolours to give an "out of focus" feel.

Those are very very cool! I love owls and I gotta say you captured them beautifully. Maybe its time to think about expanding your artistic repertoire to include painting!
Really?  So, hey, want to go fishing?  I\'ve got a telescope, and it\'s going to be a dark night, so we should see the fish really well.
...what, I\'m not talking about fishing?  That\'s stargazing?  It\'s all doing-stuff, so it\'s the same thing, right?

They're very expressive and full of life. I can imagine the first one, especially, hopping off its perch and soaring at the viewer.

Thank you!

I'll think of the expansion once I get done something else that's satisfactory. :D Haven't really tried yet, I'd need a couple of days to devote to painting only...
