If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Nanowrimo 2012
« on: October 28, 2012, 02:19:05 pm »
So who's doing National Novel Writing Month this year?

I haven't done it for awhile, though I started at the ripe old age of twelve in 2002. This year my topic is up in the air, but I've recently been attacked by the Old West bug. My thought is to do a deconstruction of Old West romanticism while having a wide range of LGBT+ and racially diverse characters.

...which means I may just want to write a novel about gay cowboys kissing other gay cowboys, some of whom may not be white. I have simple needs.
Maker, though the darkness comes upon me,
I shall embrace the light. I shall weather the storm.
I shall endure.
What you have created, no one can tear asunder.

This is what I imagine Sage will look like this month.

I'm in a similar boat (not the gay cowboy one): I am being pushed to do NaNo for the first time in a couple of years. I started a long time ago, won twice, lost more, but donated every year and cheered on everyone even when I just couldn't do it myself. I have a lot of Writerly Angst thanks to graduating, (un)employment and general Creative Block and Burnout.

But I'm back this year. Apparently whether I like it or not. :56:

I promised myself I'm not going to touch either one of my Real Projects, and will probably just resort to writing Harry Potter fan-fiction or, even more deviously, retyping something and cheating my way to victory. :ange:

I'm pellarhos over there, for those who have not already added me to their Buddies.
Fight evil: read books.

I thought of doing it this year.  My husband is working away and I have lots of time to devote to it.  However, I've also been wanting to start posting entries in my lj everyday (echoes of PBP, only on a 'don't have specific format' level.

Depending on how much time I have, I might try to do both.  If not, though, my sorely neglected lj will probably win.  I don't know if I could keep the same story going for long enough for a novel this time.

Do they let you do anthology style?  With the same word-count goal, of course.

:O How did you know?

My monicker over there is flashing_spirit, and my profile says I've had my account for nine years. That's like forever, on the internet.

I'm getting so pumped up about this now. It's been way too long!

I can't remember the official verdict, but I believe it definitely should count. You could also do a modified Nano this year with, say, half the word count on blogging and half on your writing.

I see Nanowrimo, broadly, as a way to get things done that need to get done. Hopefully those writing things are one cohesive novel, but sometimes it just doesn't work out. Even if you don't officially win for writing a 50k word novel, you can still use it to your advantage.

If the anthology has a theme, you're still in traditional NaNo territory. If not, you're a NaNo Rebel- but lots of us are. :)

I'm in, of course.  It wouldn't be November if I wasn't gnashing my teeth and creating plot holes that you could drive a Mac truck through.

Sage, I've added you as a writing buddy.  I'm Aisling_Faa over there.

I said I would never do NaNoWriMo. Me? Write a novel? In a month?
But apparently people have said they like my other writing. This gives me confidence, so I think I am going to try.

I can't promise that it will be awesome, but it will be fantastical, queer-friendly, and Pagan-y, very, very Pagan-y.

My name there is RosesandAshes, so feel free to add me as a Writing Buddy.

I'm gearing up for my seventh NaNo. I'm writing apocalyptic dystopian madness this year. It's a post-apoc sort of society, and I'm kind of dealing with the ramifications of a zombie apocalypse on a society and how they react to it. I'm quite excited already, and I can't wait to get started. :D

I'm sashataakheru over there. Feel free to add me. <3

I waffled about it then looked at all the RL stuff that needs to happen and went "Maybe next year"

I've pretty much been working on a couple books currently, changes/edits/expansions

So with me concentrating on those during my 'copious spare time', trying to put something new out in Nov would be highly problematic - though I do intend to peruse what others are doing

If anyone wants to look over my current project and toss some comments/critiques out, I'd be highly appreciative

I'm not doing anything new either, but will use the NaNo pressure/motivation to work on a project that should've been in editing stage for a year now... well, on after the other.
