====== Wicca ====== Wicca is a pagan religion that has multiple branches. The religion was founded by Gerald Gardner and first became public in 1954 with the publication of his book Witchcraft Today. As originally practiced, Wicca was a tradition that required initiation and significant training. Later, other branches of Wicca developed, most notably Alexandriand Wicca. Lineaged, oathbound Wiccan traditions are generally referred to as British Traditional Wicca. Outside of British Traditional Wicca, another wave of adherents came late in the 20th century, inspired by authors such as Scott Cunningham and Silver Ravenwolf. Many of these practitioners are not initiated into a lineage, and practice either by themselves or in covens formed with similarly-minded co-religionists. Their practice is often referred to as Eclectic Wicca and/or Neo Wicca. The two terms are sometimes used interchangably, and sometimes to mean different things. This kind of Wicca is often characterized by duotheistic belief in a goddess and a god, and often includes an emphasis on opposing forces and balance. Some, but not all, Wiccans adhere to the Wiccan Rede and/or the Rule of Three for moral guidance. However, these beliefs can and do vary widely from one tradition to the next.
